Insurance makes no sense, I've given up trying to put any logical sense behind it. I rang then a couple of months ago to price check a Cupra and it was more expensive than my diesel FR. Was getting 50 quid back with 6 months left on the policy.

Agreed, changing car soon here, was told by the insurance company that there would be no additional charge from the current 2.0 diesel 140ps valued at less then half the 2.0 petrol with +300ps I'll be changing to....not that I'm complaining mind :P

I did warn ya it was a dump :D

Insurance is strange. As I changed cars the lower the hp the more expensive it got. From 150bhp working my way down to a miserable 68 cost each step of the way. The final insult was the 406's, classed as high performance and high risk. They never said that about my 95 Merc which has more power on paper and is a bit older...

Thats because cars with low hp are in more accidents.....maybe

Its a strange one either way and I sure don't like it.

For the shneer I must get a quote on the petrol behemoths here (all the 3.0 + stuff) and then on the E300TD I once had.

Wonder can I fiddle the tractor policy :D:D:D

What did 123.ie or 25plus come back with?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,180 ✭✭✭UnknownSpecies

Is it really a thing where once a car hits 10 years old, it's much harder to insure???

Definitely a thing. I tried all sorts of car changes with Aviva. For example, they won't provide me a quote on a '04 2.5L Z4, but if I were to insure a '10+ 3.0L Z4, I'd get a refund on my current policy. I tried the same with a '15 Golf R for sh*ts and giggles and they quoted me just over €550. Absolute madness! Makes me lean towards taking a loan for my next car and getting something newer.

    .

The place I was going to was an industrial estate so that was a given.
It was chuffing getting there, there is a sign off one of the Newry exits for Craigavon, little did I realise it's about another 35 miles off that exit and the roads are pure shoite

150 by the spec on this thing

146 hp, 229 nm of torque when new.

Very little for a 2.9 V6 by modern engine standards.

I would be willing to forgive the low power. Very cool car and probably still quick off the line with 4WD!

150 as you said toasted. looked it up myself on parkers.
It is the 2.9 GLS 4x4

Not alot for the size of the engine as you said GvidoR.

    S55*
E-Class equivalent from that time would be a W114.
Most powerful from that range was a 280E with a 2.8 I6 that produced 185hp.
