Loctite 609

    Longshot but does anyone know where ( apart from online)I can buy Loctite 609 retaining compound for bottom bracket cups? Thanks

    I ended up buying it online as I couldn't find it anywhere in bricks & mortar shops here or in Northern Ireland. I found a place in the UK that shipped it here overnight (although it was over a weekend do ordered in Friday and had it Tuesday morning.

    I actually went for 603 which is high strenght (609 is medium strenght) as I have no intention of removing the threaded sleeve and don't want it moving.

    I have this product at home if you think it is suitable. You can have it for your use, you will only need a few drops. I use it for installing the BB30 bearings into the bottom bracket sleeve and it is an equivalent product to Loctite 641.

    No worries Charlie, call in any time. This is an equivalent product, just different make. See this chart for references.

    And by the way, there are a few places you can get a product like this one. I bought it in Clonmel in an engineering shop, but I would ask in Kilkenny also, they should have it or be able to order it for you.

    do you really need loctite on BB cups? I've only changed one myself and didn't use any. Had no issues in the 12 months since I did it

    Seem to remember loctite is only recommend if the cups are alloy, if plastic not required. Mine on Specialized were plastic.

    It's recommended with campagnolo cups on a cervelo BBRight BB.

    Yeah definitely but I don't ever want to hear a crack or noise of any sort from it so possibly slightly over done it but have peace of mind now.
