He said it would be a “premium product with a premium price attached”.

You should call the indo and say they mis-quoted him then.

Pretty sure siro didn't say anything about it being expensive yet, but I could be wrong on that.

Bit a stupid question here :D I was trying to figure out what kind of distance I was from the exchange. Pretty difficult to track the poles as they go so far, disappear and then some go through fields (which I imagine those rolling out fiber will love..) Is there any possible way to figure this out? I highly doubt it...

Distance has nothing to do with FTTH really.

You can calculate based on attenuation if you currently have a broadband on the line.

Yeah I know the actual distance doesn't mean anything with regards to speeds for FTTH. But I'm just wondering what distance along the poles I am from the exchange. Churchill is on the FTTH list now and I'm just inside that exchange area according to eircoms exchange boundaries. So dont know what area they will cover when they eventually roll out the FTTH in that exchange.

Whats more important there is how close you are to your neighbours. Clusters of houses around a DP(Pole) will likely be the first to get it.

Along our road there are quite a few beside eachother. The 1km stretch we're on has 14 or 15 houses. But there are a few clusters between us and Churchill!

They are now advertising the 1,000mb for Ennis in the Clare People, full page " LANDING SOON IN ENNIS. It does have a disclaimer " Not all homes will be able to avail. K&N on my road today doing duct searching!!

Billboard in Wexford advertising "1000mb ultra fast fibre" "Landing soon" too.

I think you can lodge your expression of interest here -

    http://www.eircom.net/FTTHEOI/ :D

Not sure what the "Sales Channel" line refers to though!!!

The towns expected to launch within the next few months are: Kilkenny, Letterkenny, Naas, Sanyford, Sligo, Tralee, Wexford, Carrigaline, Castlebar, Cavan, Douglas, Drogheda, Ennis and Greystones.

There was an ad on South East Radio this morning emphasising the Wexford town area.

Saw an add in the paper today advertising the FTTH here in Drogheda. Got very excited so rang Eircoms renowned 'customer care.' Guy on the phone said that because I was already a fibre customer this new service wasn't available to me. I got confused and asked why would Eircom refuse more money from an existing customer? I was then transferred to another guy who actually knew what was going on.. When I explained what I had just heard he said 'wow that's completely the wrong information..' and that the service would be with me before the years end.

Went through hell with them two years ago. After a botched install of e fibre it was 7 months and four times on the radio before they bothered to finish the job. Might have to wait for someone else to carry it so I can avoid the Monty Python routine..

So what do we choose for the Sales Information? I need to let my dad know since he's been looking for it at his house since the FTTC rollout started (we are the unlucky 2.3km direct fed customers).

Two massive spools of blue subducting being pushed at the thorn road this morning. must get a picture late on.

that would be ace and how big is that blue ducting??? I hope its very small.

Just to add a bit, in Ennis they are digging up a footpath to lay ducting to a manhole and moving fast. The nice bit is the people will get a new footpath whether they have fibre or not!!

The sub-duct is about 6mm and the black fibre cable slips easily into it.
Photos not great but it gives an idea of diameters. I think each one has 24 fibres.

"Letterkenny! Ireland’s fastest ever broadband is coming. Register now for 1000Mb broadband". There is an EOI link in Facebook ad now.

Cost will be a major issue here with Siro offering 1000Mb Rx and Tx compared to eircoms 1000Mb Rx but with 100Mb Tx.

Glencar, Long Lane, Beechwood, Ashbrook, Solomons and all the estates up that end done. If they are at the Thorn Road this week things are moving very quickly now. The black fibre core is being pushed through the blue sub-duct all over the place now. Looking good for September/October.

They were blowing fibre just below the roundabout at Pramerica during the week. It would appear that where they have a cab (44 in Letterkenny) they seem to be working out from those, as the spare fibre capacity runs to each cab in the urban and semi-urban area. On the Ramelton road they have gone as far as Barnhill Park according to the brother-in-law who saw then during the week. I know they went over Windy Hall some weeks ago. Its the McCann(MCS) firm from Armagh that seem to have the bulk of the contract and the lads are flying with the work.
LKY1_004 behind Kellys Supermarket at Mountain Top and LKY_024 in the middle of Calhame seems to be the furthest to the north of the town. I've no doubt those areas will be well covered. What part are you in yourself?

    I'd imagine I'm on LKY1_023

No list unfortunately. Just observation. You're right in the mix from there all the same. Check http://www.eircomwholesale.ie/Our_Network/

Mountain top area. Private lane tho. Not in an estate so not sure what the chances are of getting it.

Will they be blowing fibre to private houses that are 100 meters in off the road? If so, how?

Is this done by both underground and overhead cables?

Do you currently have e-fibre and are you within the town environs? In my case, near what was Gormley's Centra, the e-fibre comes to the house via an existing POTS drop point on a pole serving 12 houses near me. Eircom do not have underground ducting in our estate so I expect to have fibre fed via a new fibre drop point with light armored fibre to the house, from the same pole. The new sub-duct has been run to the last eircom manhole serving the present drop point about 45 feet from it.
The only other option for me is Siro and I know from their rollout map, that shows the low voltage runs around the town, that all areas within Letterkenny should be covered. If your getting electricity in Letterkenny you should be able to get fibre from Siro.

They've taken away the extra option none of us knew what to choose.

Saw the url on a bilboard outside Tesco in town. It had a number to call too, and said to call into an eircom store.

4 large eircom vans and a baby eircom van were working up the Rathbeale Road in Swords yesterday

They were parked outside SRD1_015 for most of the day working up and down from the exchange (manholes were up as one of the rugrats and myself walked down to the town)

    No and then yes.

Being served via the hospital roundabout cabinet. Too far away for efibre.

Was hoping that we could get this instead. Not sure if eircom will be willing to fed a fibre line directly into our house. We are about 150 Meters off the main road. Others houses in the same area too tho so perhaps that will be the saving grace.
