Price of a pint in Edinburgh?

Im going to edinburgh in a couple of days, does anyone know the general price of a pint over there?

Anywhere from £2.40 (Tennents in an old man pub) to £4.50 (some of the craft beers in a good pub) depending on where you go and what you want to drink.

Average is probably between 3.50-3.80.

Well what would you expect when you're drinkin' in pubs like Dirty Dick's, Filthy McNasty's and Angus McBastard's ?

I like shandwicks just off princes St ... Good location , and pints are like £2.50 . Double and mixer £4.50.

I like the Guildford Arms on West Register street, just across from Waverley. Lovely place, good selection of ales, and reasonable enough prices considering the location. The Halfway House on the steps up from Waverley to Cockburn Street, which I'm informed has the hilarious name of "Fleshmarket Close", is also a nice little pub if you're waiting for a train, and refreshingly cheap too.

On a similar note, I'm heading to Edinburgh for a few days in August, at the beginning of the comedy festival. Going on my own. Any recommendations for some pubs for a guy in his 30s to pass away a reasonably quite evening? Just somewhere to chill out, maybe read a paper and a pint or two.

You seem to be describing old man pubs?! Bow Bar on Victoria Street sounds like it's exactly what you're looking for! As mentioned by Fysh, Halfway House is a great pub. A bit further out of town (and therefore likely to be further away from any Fringe madness), Bennetts on Leven St is a good pub. Broughton Street on the other side of town has a good few pubs, though I'd imagine they will be fairly busy during the fringe.

Teuchters on William Street for a great boozer, can't recommend it enough. You also have Berts Bar across the street if it's too busy.

Teuchters is a great spot alright, loved it when I worked down that end.
You have the new Melville too across the way which is under new management I think, but it's now a bit "trendier" than Teuchters and Berts.

As mentioned the Halfway House is a grand wee place. Mathers at the end of Princes Street at the West End is another quality boozer. Bennetts is a proper pub as well.
It's a wee bit out of the centre but "The Diggers" / Athletic Arms has a quality selection of malts, at brilliant prices as well. Larger measures that other places as well.
