I'd say it's not looking good for your wife. She's going to be single soon through no fault of her own.

Thanks for reminding again us just how horrible the last century was for music, tv, fashion. Hideous times really.

Makes me wish I was born 10-15 years later and avoided some of that sh1te, kids now growing up have a far superior childhood than we ever had back in the 80s and 90s.

OP's missus wants the ride off David Duchovny. He'd oblige but in the meantime, buy her a boxset of Californication and a rabbit.

The thing about Buffy is it's not as enjoyable on tv as it is in the box set.

There are a lot of scenes cut out due to the graphic nature. I've had the box set of Buffy and also Angel for years. Watched them both through more than a few times.

They are excellent, very witty and very well written. The earlier seasons have aged but that's probably true for most tv series due to budget constraints.

    incest families,

That song still gives me the creeps.. One of the best "monster of the week" episodes.

2 very different shows in fairness

Big buffy fan myself. Didn't faithfully watch the X files, just dipped in and out

You should be shot at dawn! Buffy?! What's your next option: Dawson's Creek?

X Files seemed great back in the day though it wouldn't seem as good now. At least the first few episodes were based on the genuine "X files" of the FBI...but Buffy?!...that was made for teenage girls. The Twilight of the 90's.

I feel dirty even replying to this...

I never considered Buffy a girl's show. I'm a lad who couldn't stand Dawson's Creek, but Buffy was a great show.

To me, Buffy was just as relatable as Spiderman.

I'm glad I grew up when I did because i have great memories of how life was back then TV films cartoons games etc included. There's no way I'd swap that for growing up now!

I'm at the right age to be able to enjoy great adults television shows that are on right now but in general I can remember as a kid TV not being so ****ing dumbed down back then as it is for all ages mostly now.

I mean even the most basic kids cartoons and animated shows had much deeper storys. There was also so many great shows aimed to older age group that bascially paved the way for what we have had on TV and film the last decade.

Would you go away out of that. Spiderman is in a ball park of his own in terms of relatability. Of fictional characters who are known the world over, spiderman is arguably the most easy to relate to character ever created, expecially for children/lads between 5-25. As a lad, how on earth can you relate to Buffy on any level? I certainly can't.

As someone alluded to earlier, these shows are worlds apart. In its prime, xfiles was one of the best shows of all time, right up there with sopranos, breaking bad etc. The other is comparable to twilight for teenage girls. Its like comparing sugarbabes to pink floyd

I was born in 74. Which means the 80s were spent with Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon Crest as the height of US drama. And Dallas was something you'd look forward to (until Bobby comes back in the shower which still pisses me off).
OK, we also got The Sweeney, Minder, Only Fools And Horses and Cheers.
Cue the 90s, Twin Peaks - which rewrote the rule book about how weird and creative you can get with TV. Top show of that decade in my book and certainly the most influential show.
Buffy was a childrens show in the same way that The Simpsons (best of it ran through the 90s) was for grown-ups with enough education to catch the double meanings and hidden jokes. The X Files a photocopy of The Twilight Zone. Both were watchable but nowhere near the first rank of TV in any decade.

I gotta admit, reading quotes like this out to my rabid Buffy fan partner is giving me a certain amount of entertainment. That one degenerated into spluttering.

    He advises the word "conniption".

They were two completely different shows, no?
Buffy was more aimed at teenagers and X-Files was more serious all the time, I thought.
Only ever saw a bit of X-Files, though.
Still prefer Voyager; was he only show I remembe watching from start to end that had an actual story as opposed to stuff like Saved by the Bell.

X-Files had its moments (the episode where we get the whole backstory to the Cigarette Smoking Man was great!) but went on FAR too long!
Star Trek DS9 and Stargate SG1/Atlantis were far better shows

The 90s Batman cartoon was great:

And some men consider wearing foundation to be acceptable...anyway

A young woman, chosen by fate, endowed with mystical powers by the calling and a splash of clairvoyance and prophetic dreams. Add in, iirc, a bad-boy vampire love-interest who overcomes his nature for Buffy's sake... sorry, you think this type of character isn't aimed at teenage girls? It's the same tried-and-tested formula, only the situations are different.

I've seen bits of it because someone else watched it and when Charisma Carpenter was on-screen, I definitely paid more attention. I used watch Charmed too; not for the story line but because Shannon Doherty rarely wore a bra and often wore sheer tops. That's the kind of Women's Lib I support!

All slayers (what buffy was) are female.
Interestingly though, the sort of fatherfigure to them entire group would lecture everyone at one time or another and not just the girls.

Point is that while the main character was clearly "you go girl!" type, the storylines were more than "girl likes boy, boy is bad, boy changes for girl the live happily ever after".

Good, then there's a good chance she doesn't exist and buffy the vampire slayer never happened.

X-Files was ok for a while, it had some good episodes but also a lot of bad ones.

    i never related to Spiderman

    You're obviously a robot.

It's the cool thing to like Batman these days but Spider-Man is an infinitely better and more relatable character.
