Whenever I drive through the Wicklow Mountains I feel like I'm William Wallace in Scotland. Looks the exact same.

Looking out over Killiney Hill, one could be in Sorrento.

Aren't there parts of Eastern Europe that look like Wicklow?

    Baseball caps, tracksuits 'n' hoodies
    Stripes black, white and grey
Sometimes I'm wonderin' when I walk up town
Am I wanderin' in East L.A?

The Wicklow mountains are like Tuscany. The countryside in the midlands on a good day is like Provence. Dublin city is like some bleak communist hellhole.

Sometimes I'm think in Canada when I'm in Dublin.
I've mistaken innumerable D4 chicks and asked them, "Are you Canadian?"

There are a few villages in NI that would not be out of place in surrey in the UK.

Northern Ireland and parts of Northern England, Warrington, parts of Greater Manchester, and bits of Yorkshire do look very similar to each ther.
And the latter has been used to portray the former in various films and TV - Harry's Game, '71, Resurrection Man.

Portland, Maine and Galway city. Both similar sized cities with an artistic liberal feel, college towns with thriving bar and restaurant scenes. They also have similar surroundings, beautiful coastlines, lakes, greenery and mountains.

People in Chernobyl take in kids from Bunclody every year as part of a respite program.

The terrain of the West coast of Ireland reminds me of the south west of portugal, except for the difference in weather.

O Cebreiro up in the mountains in Galicia today is like Conamara in about 1950.

O Cebreiro and its unique heritage

The thread is definitely suffering from a profound lack of humorous comparisons between Irish locales and inhospitable global locations

Err, sarcasm?? Portland, Maine is nowhere near the size of Dublin, I should know I have lived in both. I think population of Portland is more like Galway or even less.
