Its great to see a conviction and see it been called what it is not a protest but criminal damage.

Be a bit more clever and don't get caught.

Are you in support of being robbed or are you just too scared of being called names if you oppose being charged double for the water you use?

You already pay €1.2bn for your water through direct and indirect taxes/VAT.

But of course being spineless you'd rather side with the smiling suit who's scamming you but telling you it's all above board than actually contemplate the fact that you're a sucker.

    Why?

    think it's sarcasm

as it's mostly Sinn Fein supporters that advocate water meter damage

Or perhaps he just damaged property belonging to another and was properly charged and convicted. Or do you think he shouldnt be charged at all? What other crimes do you think are acceptable when conducted as part of a 'protest' against water meters?

criminal damage is an unjust law? tell me more.

I wouldn't say it's great or its fantastic.

    It's just...the law.

Furthermore, it is no more patriotic than tax evasion because people don't like taxes.

Eggincup, this is nonesense about paying twice.

They increased VAT and Motor tax rates previously under the guise of additional monies being required for water, but at no time did they actually ring fence the money. They lied about it to soften the blow, what they really wanted was to simply raise taxes.

You already pay Taxes yet are still charged at A&E. You already pay taxes but still have to pay motor tax. You already pay taxes but still have to pay for services like passport, licences etc.

Its is nice slogan but unfortunately doesn't make any sense.

The facts of the matter is that we simply do not raise enough taxes to cover our costs, so if we take it that we already pay for water through tax then by extension, we then need to raise taxes to cover the shortfall. IW is simply (although made complicated by a staggeringly messed up set-up) a way of finally taking water charges out of the governments remit. The theory behind IW is that the monies collected will be ringfenced to being available for water services only.

A simple raise in the level of taxes will leave us in exactly the same position that we are in now.

If you're against something then protest, write to the relevant politicians. But this is just criminal damage, nothing more, nothing less.

Maybe you can explain why people with private wells should also pay for your water?

Billing and charges page is gone awol for some reason.

Do you realise that in order to break even Irish Water are going to have to charge you in excess of €1000 per year for water with no cap on high the bill can go. The government are also contemplating giving a private company access to your pension.

Have you a source for that figure? Is that for a single person or for a family of 10?

The politicians are the ones who handed Ireland's water assets over to a private company in the first place. What the fcuk good will it do writing to them?

They can always count on people who don't want to rock the boat, people such as yourself, to split the opinion of the public they are trying to con.

so criminal damage is an acceptable form of protest? would you consider assaulting water meter installers as an acceptable protest?

Wow, you must have been paying some amount of motor tax if it's previously been covering water supply costs of €1,000 per year.

    They don't.

If your water comes from a private well or a group water scheme and you have a private wastewater treatment system (such as a septic tank) you are not regarded as a customer of Irish Water and do not have to pay the new domestic water charges. (However, if you registered with Irish Water by 30 June 2015, you will still be eligible for a Water Conservation Grant – see below.)

Ah yes, funny how the oul Justice system works in Ireland. Meanwhile behind (Court) Door Number 2 a guy gets a suspended sentence for raping his ex-girlfriend while she sleeps.

    Priorities eh?

Yes we do. One of the biggest arguments form the no side is we already pay for our water through normal taxation and paying an additional water charge is paying twice. This means the folks (like me) who own a private well and have to pay for its's upkeep/maintenance, who pay taxes, are already paying for water we don't receive, in essence subsidising those who receive water from the mains.

Well the leaflet that was sent out to every sucker in the State clearly read "Your water meter is coming soon".
So whose meter is it? Did they just print that to give you a warm huggy feeling like you're part of the celebration?
