Buying van at UK auction

I was thinking of buying a van at a UK Auction and I was wondering if anyone here has done the same and could give a step by step guide on what needs to be done and what it costs.
So say I'm in the Auction center and bid and win a commercial van at the equivalent of €5000+vat, what are the costs and procedures involved before I'd be ready to road tax it here?
I've bought a couple of cars off private UK sellers before but never a commercial (Vat and Vrt?) and never from an auction (costs and fees?)!
I'm not registered for Vat in Ireland at the moment, but could I get an example of the two procedures as if I was Vat registered and not Vat registered (thinking of setting up my own company).
    Thanks.

Have bought two vans in the UK. One private and the other dud at an auction. Be very careful with your hard earned cash at any auction. You may be better going to a renowned commercial dealer. Little dearer but much more peace of mind and generally better service history with such.

Out of interest, what van you have in mind? On the vat, get a registered friend to look after that if you're not registered. Vrt is generally pretty accurate on vrt.ie
