Ugh, just back from a strength class, thought id try it as its close to home. It was awful really, firstly I was told id have my body fat analysed but they just used a scales not even a callipers so I dont know how accurate the reading would be from that, not very I think. Then the instructor proceeded with the class without taking any background info from me - I might never have lifted a weight in my life! Nor did they correct all the poor form I could see around the room,I think she may have corrected one person properly. One girl beside me at one stage was skipping most of the exercises. No one did the full set of reps prescribed that i could see. Obviously wont be going back there. Its a bit mad that there's no regulation and anyone can charge for classes that are less than effective. Rant over!

That's how people end up injured. I could do that like.

I forgot to post my readings from the body composition analysis, I think someone else is going to analyze them and come back to me but basically she said I've 27% body fat, 50% water which according to her is far to high and a 'good' muscle mass. 18 months ago when I was doing lots of weights my BF was 21% (using a calipers) I'm not surprised the % is higher and tbh looking at the chart I'd say that's not far off so perhaps the scales is reasonably accurate (?). Anyway, I'd certainly hope to be reducing that in the coming weeks between S&C and better diet along with losing 8lbs (target A). On the water % when I googled it the average seems to be between 45-60% so not sure why she said mine was particularly high, I must admit to knowing nothing about body water %, maybe she meant low! It would have been nice to have some explanations of the results...

Friday 10th July 3 miles @ 10.30 blugh, had to talk myself into going out the door, was wrecked, hayfever is playing up and wasn't feeling the love. Lovely refreshing rain shower on the last KM home, which I ran on grass.

I bought 'the stick' today to add to my torture devices myofascial release devices, found it brilliant for working on neck & shoulders, upper arms etc that I find hard to do well with the foam roller. Shoulders dropped about 2 inches after massaging them, happy days.

OK what's a stick? I've noticed my shoulders and neck are a bit stiff so sounds good to me.

I got it in tk max, its basically a stick with spikey massage balls on it! Its more manoverable than a foam roller but equally painful..:)

    Must invest in this device.

Saturday 11th July cabinteely parkrun 29.11, the instructions were to do this as a progression run, a big chunk of the first mile is downhill while the next two miles have a lot more ups than downs so this was always going to be interesting :)

1 mile warm up @ 10.20 followed by 9.20, 9.19 & 9.03, not my best run there but it was hot and I'm still not feeling 100% so I'm happy enough that I managed to increase the effort on the two tougher laps and still passing people on the hills so that's all good. Brought some friends along who loved the park although one of them commented that 'the hills are in the wrong place' :D Another great parkrun by the volunteers and marthastew, they are so welcoming to everyone. Finished up with tea and scones in the zen garden.

Also great to meet Nop, spotted him at the start and wondered if he qualified as Dutch looking :) took the risk after the run and was right, lovely to meet another bordsie! Hope you enjoyed the 5 miles back home too...

Great to meet you too, FD! You're the second boardsie after meno I now know! I wasn't 100% sure either, so thanks for taking the awkward "are you on boards..." step :D

Looks like you had a good run, and so did your friends. I did spent the 5M home wondering if hills can really be in a "right place" :)

+1 to the compliments for the volunteers. They're a great bunch and their enthusiasm is contagious. It really is a great course, the uphills are compensated by the nice long downhill drags, on which it was hard to stick to LSR pace (ssht, don't be telling Dubgal on me)

B.t.w, Shanganagh Park is only a few more minutes South, and if you're ever looking for a PB course (as long as it's not windy).

Yes I'll definitely try Shanganagh one of these days! have to try St Annes too, wonder which one is the quicker course.. No I wont say a word to dubgal :D in fairness to you it was pretty obvious you were just jogging it although I couldn't have kept up even if I'd tried  I will actually race that course sometime but the thoughts of that are quite scary...

I agree, racing that course would be hard! I was talking to meno last time (not that I knew it was meno :)) and he suggested it would add 90 seconds to a flatter parkrun like Shanganagh. That said, the downhill sections are nice and long; you can really bank time and gather your breath a bit.

You should try a sub-25 in Shanganagh sometime! But you have to get lucky with the wind - it can have a real impact there.

See... What did I tell you... Dutch looking!! :)

Sorry couldn't make park run today, good intentions over ruled by a rare lie-in and less rare slight hangover!

Poppintree seems to be a good PB park run too.

Sunday 12th July 4 miles recovery @ 10.52 on grass & trail. Went up to the PP park for this, probably had too much faster stuff during the week so decided to run this on the trails to keep it nice & slow, have to say I really enjoyed it, started off with music but took the headphones out and relaxed and enjoyed the total silence in the park on a Sunday morning. No sea swim this morning as I just didn't have the energy.

Total miles for the week 27

jersey on, kettle on, one hour to kick off and a very legitimate reason for vegging on the couch for the whole afternoon guilt free :)

Watching finals doesn't count as 'vegging'!!! although the football was boring...

The ole HR was definitely raised in the first half, took a while for the lads to WTFU :) but yeah, pretty terrible game with the exception of our 2nd goal, I let such a roar the dog went bananas :D

Monday 13th July 4 miles @ 10.05, left it till after 8 to go out, thoroughly enjoyed this, beautiful evening & not too hot. Having an achilles niggle at the mo so off to walkinstown on Friday to get it sorted before it develops into anything v. serious. Will stick to the plan for the week but dial back a few notches on the speed sessions. Also have started 3 x 15 calf raises into heel drops twice a day which two days in seems to be helping. Read somewhere that hills can aggravate this and I have been doing lots of hills recently..

Very sensible FD! In fact we are quite a sensible bunch overall by the sounds of things. I neglected stretching a bit last week, simply because it was a mad week and I had no time, but it, of course, came back to bite me in the hip flexor :o. +1 to the hills, will bring out any weaknesses but once they're in your programme regularly and the calves get stronger you'll adapt.

I don't think this is necessary.

'Tis grand! It goes away when I run :D.

See you Sunday. I had a look at the map and think I'll go to 1Km then over to 9Km. Great idea re. camera ;)
