Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

A lot of posts on here about how Dublin are going to hammer us and how we would be better of losing to Meath etc. supporters outside of Westmeath do not understand the significance of this result and the pain we have had to endure from our grander more arrogant neighbours. This was our All-Ireland, much like Laois hurlers vs Offaly and Sligo footballers vs Roscommon, anything else from here on in will be a bonus.
But we will enjoy the present.

very good in for westmeath especially with everyone writing them off , several times today they could have dropped the heads and giving up , and a much needed win after a league campaign that offered so much at the start of the year that ended with relegation

No arrogance here, Westmeath deserved the win, if you score more you win, end of.
Nice to see the under dog prevail, even at the expense of my own County, will be staying away from Clonmellon and Colinstown for the next few weeks :)

No it was a great comeback in fairness, and the likes of Heslin would get onto any team.

Congrats to Westmeath for a great display in second half today, nice to see a game without constant hand passing.

Not overly confident for the weekend with Heslin missing and Ger Egan doubtful. Hopefully he sticks Glennon and Martin in Full forward and we can nick a few goals as I feel thats whats needed to win this

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,517 ✭✭✭passremarkable

    Desperate performance at the weekend.
We have no midfield or full back line.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,706 ✭✭✭dr.kenneth noisewater

Very disappointing end to the year, we never came out in the 2nd half. With Heslin missing Martin was double marked and the other forwards didn't step up except J Connellen before he was injured. Poor management as we didn't seem to have a plan B

Any idea who's made it to the junior knockout stages?

I'll just answer my onw question - seen this on the westmeath gaa site:
At Junior level, Multyfarnham & Milltown are in the Semi finals with Kilbeggan Shamrocks,Ballycomoyle and Garrycastle B making the Quarter finals. The last remaining Quarter final spot rests between Mullingar Shamrocks & Athlone and will not be decided until during the coming week.

Disastrous season for our footballers, lose this weekend and relegation almost guaranteed. Don't think anyone has slipped from Division 1 to 4 in successive years. Most of the players are living off the 2nd half against Meath last year and have been terrible since.

On a brighter note our Hurlers are going well and a win this weekend against Kildare will seal our place in the 2A final against Antrim/Carlow

A dark day for our county footballers yesterday becoming the first team to suffer 3 consecutive relegation. Root and branch reform needed but the current county board needs to be replaced first.
Hopefully our hurlers can continue their great form next week against Laois and secure Division 1B spot for next year and get the praise and funding they deserve.

Westmeath were lucky Offaly were so negative in the first half.Completely daft tactics from us in the first half if we had the balls to play a bit of football we might have won it.

Can Westmeath reach a second Leinster final in a row? Would be some achievement for a county who has only ever won it once

And only reached three finals in the previous 128 years

I think they might. a good start is needed, kildare are like a town team, if they start well they could overrun westmeath. if westmeath stay with them and its tight with 10 to go id be fancying westmeath

Not much hope anywhere for us on Sunday with most people saying we should just have a go and see what happens. Will be heavy, heavy beating if we go with that gameplan as we just don't have the players. We need to just try fustrate Dublin and take every chance we get and hang in as long as we can.
Realistically anything under 10 points would be good(handicap is -15 so I'll be throwing a few bob on that)

They should surely put Heslin in at full forward with a couple of supporting players and go long. Dublins full back line doesn't look great under a high ball and realistically Westmeath are going to need to score 3 or 4 goals to have any chance.

SFC final is between Tyrellspass and St. Lomans this year. Should be tight with Lomans expected to pull through after beating Killucan impressively over the weekend.

Rosemount won the Intermediate and CFCW won the Junior already.

SHC final is Raharney V Clonkill with Clonkill favorites.

Oliver Plunkets won the IHC last weekend
