That David guy whose voice sounded familiar. I think he was on some weeks ago talking about his 'difference'. Something as well about going on holidays abroad on his own

He definitely sounded familiar. Was he the guy who had a liver problem and was rather smug about it being cured?

    I didn't have the wit.

You could have just stopped there Joe

    Trocaire does it like this...

€19.99 will provide Durex Condoms Thin Feel 24S. This would allow 24 rides without the risk of the production of kids*

€25 provides seeds (Soybeans/Maize/Wheat) for a family to plant. This will provide them with food and a source of income from the crops they grow.
Provide a sprinkler to a farmer in a drought affected area

€50 provides a sprinkler to a farmer in a drought affected area. This would ensure crops had enough water and protect against crop failure due to drought.
Provide children with school fees and books

€100 provides 4 children with school fees and books to ensure they have the chance of a better future through education.
Provide a loan opportunity for 3 poor families

€250 provides a loan opportunity for 3 poor families. This would enable them to set up their own small businesses and provide them with a source of income.

    €250 Tax-efficient giving
If you donate €250 or more to us a year, we can claim back tax from the Revenue Commissioners. This means we can help even more people with your donations, at no extra cost to you.

    * - Not part of actual Trocaire list :D

A lot of European Countries have a church tax where 1-2% of your income goes to your church of choice

Where do I sign up to be 'vulnerable'
I'd have the world and it's mother looking out for me

She could do a deal. She gives them the money and the priest comes around to cut her trees, seal her roof and clean her driveway whenever she wants.

of course they do sure the number is on the envelope. although from my experience they still send them out if you haven't ever put anything in

There's numbers on each envelope, they are unique, accounting them up would be easy.

Joe must have never gave anything to the church

Parish House cleaners probably have a fair idea.

In the good old days they read each congregants contribution every week from the pulpit

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,215 ✭✭✭bottlebrush

I actually don't know what parish I'm in and I am living here 10 years
I never get any correspondence, let alone anybody looking for money
I just to to mass in the nearest church

Perhaps they should give those who give the most premium level seating at the front of the church with nice leather seats and drinks holders for them?

Remember this very well. Awful practice. The same family always without fail gave the largest contribution and the same little lady, without fail, always gave the least - 50 pence. I used to always feel morto for the little lady, but in hindsight I applaud her!
