    A cunning plan, Baldrick...

This is pretty shocking, elderly woman who has possibly come into an insurance pay out after her husbands death asked to pony up 5000. Nasty tactics taking advantage of an elderly person. No other charity would get away with this, neither should the church. Fair play to Joe not giving him a pass on this.

They should have done something like...
5 cent buys a roof nail
€5 buys a bag of cement
€10 buys a metre of roof felt
€500 buys a shipment of roof slates
€10k buys a business class ticket to heaven

Some people who are loaded might be insulted if you asked them for a suggested contribution of €100 a year.

Old Mother Duffy must have been tapped by the Church in Ballyer

Joe has him on the ropes and there is no comeback in sight

Joe fights dirty with no referee, until the broadcasting commission meets. They'd then dock him a million, but sure what is 75 minutes wages to him with all his gigs?

Since when do the church employ fundraising firms? How much is that costing?

If the woman is only happy to give it.......what's the problem?

Was the 'Parish Census' in essence a data collection exercise for the hired fundraisers?

If they knew who she was, they'd ask her for a lot more than a grand.

Church coming out badly they should have suggested what amounts would do for them and not suggesting a figure. There's some people who might just write them a cheque for the full €300k amount or leave it in their will if they were worth millions, it would be nothing to them.

Maybe the woman is only giving it because she's in fear of the consequences if she doesn't.

How would you downsize a church? Starbucks will hardly want to open up where the confession boxes are.
