I'm actually thinking in terms of your Boards username, but if anyone wants to say why they were given one of their real names, feel free!

Mine is a name I like from a series of books many years ago. It was only a once-off character, but I found it pretty. Two Sams at the Chalet School, if anyone's wondering!

My actual first name is a family name, I think I was named after a granny.

I was stuck for inspiration and looked around and saw a Zara bag. But I didn't like Zara, so I changed it to Xara instead. Then I had to add a cat because, ya know, it's the Internet. And I had a spare z lying around, so I stuck it in at the end.

It was inspired by this passage from Jingo by Terry Pratchett.

"It was much better to imagine men in some smokey room somewhere, made mad and cynical by privilege and power, plotting over brandy. You had to cling to this sort of image, because if you didn't then you might have to face the fact that bad things happened because ordinary people, the kind who brushed the dog and told the children bed time stories, were capable of then going out and doing horrible things to other ordinary people. It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was Us, then what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

    Boards username: my name.

My name: I was named after the lead singer of The Kinks. My dad was also a big fan of Blondie, so I reckon I got off quite lightly.

My nom de plume is a tip of the hat to a French relative's mother who was the girlfriend of France's one time 'ennemi public #1'

I'm blind in one eye due to uveitis, and One eyed Jacks are a term in poker ('Jack' was a pseudonym I used a long time ago too), so I figured I'd go with that -

The phrase one-eyed royals is jargon referring to the three face cards showing only one eye: the Jack of Spades (J♠), Jack of Hearts (J♥) and King of Diamonds (K♦). The terminology results from the depiction of the face on the card as being shown in profile, so only one eye is visible (all other face cards show two eyes). The jacks are also referred to, separately, as one-eyed jacks: Jack of Spades (J♠), Jack of Hearts (J♥).

My real name, I was named after my old man, which caused the nurses fierce confusion when I was going in for a hip operation and the nurse thought I looked very young for my age...

Turned out she was looking at my old man's medical records, the only difference being our date of birth :D

Was a child in the '80s (fear of Cold War related nuclear strikes was quite prevalent, even in the schoolyard) and was fascinated when the Berlin Wall came down - my first time paying attention to the news. Have had an interest since then in the political/cultural mish-mash that was the Cold War era.

The first internet forum I joined was a chicken and poultry enthusiast forum. I keep Rhode Island Reds and I am male, so I decided on Mr Rhode Island Red. Decided to keep it going here.

Not that I'm married to a Rhode Island Red hen, or that I'd want to be or anything, I just chose the name because...well...it sounded kinda...at the time...it seemed...

    <.< >.>

It was nearly 10 years ago. Things were different back then.

I was eating a sweet called camel balls at the time. Camel balls sounded weird but the dogs bollix is better. There is a saying that if you call something the dog's bollocks, its the best and that's what I am, lol.

I honestly put very little thought into my username. I wanted a two word name, an adjective and a noun. Misty Cheese was the first thing that popped into my head so I went with it. There is absolutely no meaning behind it at all. The two words are not really supposed to 'go' with each other necessarily. I could just as easily been StormyApple or OrangeSoup or GiantElbow.

My real name is actually a nickname that I kinda gave myself when I was a teenager but I really liked it and so I stuck with it. It's officially my name and is on my passport and driving licence (well, learners permit).
