Loud Crack Starting Car: Ford Focus

    Hi,

I have an 02 Ford Focus Hatchback. I made a stupid misake today and would appreciate some advice on what damage I may have done.

I went to collect my car from the garage and like a genius I strted the car without checking was it in neutral. I hadn't depressed the clutch and the car was in 1st gear. It lurched of course and the ignition died.

What worries me is that there was a loud crack noise when I started it. The mechanic said it was a 'nasty crack' and 'we'll see what happens'. I drove it home and it seems perfectly fine but the noise worried me.

Does anyone have any advice on this? Should I let it be or get the car checked out? Or is there anything I should look out for that could signify a problem or that I did some damage? Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks! 😊

It would obviously have come from the starter, the sudden force against it while it tried to start the car and overcome the inertia of the drivetrain and the car.
It would several multiples I'd what it's used to.
It may well go forever or you could have starter trouble soon.

No way to check it though, if it goes it goes.
    Stop worrying :)
