    Anyone interested in my Astra?

    17236729052_577d7f7e54_c.jpg

    It's a 2001 Vauxhall Astra
    1.4 16V engine (90hp) runs very good
    174k miles
    5 speed manual gearbox
    Electric windows on front
AC (may need to be regassed though)

ECU was replaced about 2 months ago
    New oil and filter
    New brake pads
Taxed until end of August 2015

NCT failed on brake pipes and backplates. No problems with emissions, they were under 0.1% at both low and high RPM.

    Open to offers.

If it was near by, I would be interested in something like that but i would be thinking its worth next to nothing.

Honestly, it's probably worth the tax rebate...

If you could get a decent price for the repairs needed for the NCT it might be worth hanging onto but otherwise, I just can't see it being worth anything when the price of scrap metal is so low.

Rebate? What do you mean? I can declare it off the road and get a refund?

Nope. You can only get 3 months or more back if sending it for scrap or a few other disposal routes.
It looks tidy enough though to be fair.

Where are you based? Which brake pipes did it fail on, and what back plates are the problem?

Just a quick update on the Stilo -

Its been running great the last few weeks - we even took it on a trip around the wild atlantic way in Cork and Kerry, staying in Sneem for a few nights.

Car ran great, but was a little jumpy going from on/off throttle. This was resolved with a thorough clean and polish of the throttle body (motorised) :

I also got the rear hydraulic bushes done (60 for parts, 70 to fit) and this has transformed the handling of the car, let alone fix the banging from the rear axle!!

    Jobs left to do include
    1. Rear wiper fix
    2. Aircon regas ( compressor and clutch are working, but need it pressure tested first) Not urgent, though.
    3. New front speakers ( critical!!)

So, so far, I'm really pleased with it. Well worth it, and it drives a hell of a lot better than I expected a stilo to. Despite having just 103hp, the 1.6 is a ery willing angine, and can fairly shift it when needed. Economy? 7.6l/100 Km over the last 650km

Looks much cleaner in the donedeal photos than the day I seen it. Took that photo maybe 2 or 3 months ago and Im nearly positive that it was still in the garage yard when I passed last week.

You would never be asked " was that your 6 door Volvo banger limo that I passed last week"
    It's certainly unique.

Timing belt broke. Thanks to the previous owner who just wrote the mileage on the engine instead of actually changing the belt

    Words to live by.

Complete tiiming belt kit + labour + vat = €645

    White tippex pen + vat = €1.25

If you dont see a receipt, then assume the belt has not been changed.

    Just noticed that.

I remember selling my dad's old Corolla and a woman rang up asking if the timing belt has been changed.

We had owned the car for 1 year at that point and we didn't know so I literally said to her on the phone: "No, the timing belt hasn't been done".

She then proceeded to tell me to go and open the bonnet and see if there's white tippex writing that says "TB" on the engine cover :D

To be honest depending on the car, year and value, who I was dealing with etc. I'd quite often be inclined to go with what is wrote in tippex under the bonnet. Receipts/ invoices are often genuinely misplaced and lost. Popping the tb cover and having a look should tell a lot too. If there is doubt about water pumps/ tensioners etc. probably best to change the lot alright....again depending on year and value of the car. If a low value car I'd be one for taking a chance quite often.

Remember too that receipts can sometimes be doctored up by guys working in garages or with friends working in garages etc...probably doesn't happen too often but have no doubt it does happen.
