Connecting to O2 mast with 3 sim

I have a Huawei E5220 with a 3 sim. The problem I have is the 3 mast is a good distance away and I just about get a connection by hanging the modem out an upstairs window. There is an O2 mast a couple of hundred metres away from the front of my house that I have used for Tesco Mobile in the past with decent speeds. I have tried connecting to O2 3G with the 3 sim and while I get a good signal I am unable to make a connection. I have changed the APN to open.internet and open.public.internet and neither has worked.

Any ideas?

We can't connect to O2 3G masts yet . I don't understand why we can't 3 need to allow access soon it would help out a lot of people. Currently only O2 2G is available to connect to with 3 Sims.
