From Phoenix nights to Car Share, I think he is very entertaining and funny. Saw him live once too and really enjoyed it.

I can see why some people dont get him...but ya know...different people have different tastes like!

Been a few years since I saw it but That Peter Kay Thing was hilarious and series one of Phoenix Nights was all kinds of lovely. There's a strong argument that a lot of the credit should go to the other writers involved in both (Spikey and Fitzmaurice) but Kay was the perfect lead performer for it all. His first standup DVD ain't really my thing but he's obviously very good at what he does and I enjoyed it a lot. As far as hitting a broad audience goes, Kay (Phoenix Nights in particular) is faaaaaaaaaaaarr better than most the stuff that goes for that (Mrs Brown's Boys, I'm looking at you).

Can't disagree with any of this ...

Yes, his seems to be a simple form of comedy, but it works.
I think his stand up isnt at the same heights it was, but his shows are consistently good, wasn't a huge fan of the Geraldine character but the show itself had some great moment.

Horribly unfunny, ripped off his fans by releasing two DVDs of the same material and was the absolute worst thing about the absolute worst episode of Doctor Who.

His whole act, distilled into two words:

    "Remember school?"

    Nope
His autobiography is pretty good but can't stand his stand up personally

    Each to their own

Never found him funny. Also noticed something about those who swear he's hilarious. I've watched them watching him and rather than actually laugh they tend to go "oh yeah i remember that" or "Oh yeah I used to do that" "My da does that" etc... He's more of a nostalgia tour guide than a comedian

His audience are mindless retards who think him singing 'Show Me the Way to Amarillo is fantastic comedy.

Personally, I think anyone who finds Peter Kay to be 'funny' should be classified below the baseline of cognitive functioning.

He is like a One Person Crankies.

I found him temporarily humourous for about 10 minutes about 7 years ago. I read his book and that kind of did it for me. He doesn't really drink at all just maybe a Bailey's once in a blue moon according to him. I respect people who don't relate to getting binned in the pub every week but that is just sad. a fcuking Bailey's !! He was also saying how much he loved Vimto. How cutesy.

    Nah!

Eddie Murphy's "Raw" and "Delirious" beats them all.

I laughed till I thought I was going to die watching those as a kid when they first came out

Watched them again recently... about as funny as watching an autopsy :(

    Phoenix nights had its moments

Peter Kays pie n chips routine isn't funny though

I love him, cracks me up, stand up is great but Phoenix Nights and Max and Paddy are brilliant.

Look up some of the out-takes, I was laughing for ages..."What about Tommy dick fingers"

Ed byrne is seriously underrated. he does himself no favours on those stupid gameshows and the like but his actual standup is quite good.

Peter Kay is great. He might overdo playing up to the older members of his audience, he can veer into Brendan Grace at times, but his observations about people and life's little oddities are pin sharp. Hes wonderful at story telling, when hes talking about 3 or 4 people having a conversation you can see each of them in his mannerisms and tone of voice. Great at improvising on stage too and very comfortable with audience interaction.

His Sitcom's are brilliant, but his standup doesn't have the same longevity.

I don't think anyone is funnier than Kevin Bridges! Absolutely hilarious on comedy gameshows and standup!
