You wont like Kevin Bridges so, stick to a safe southerner like Michael McIntyre and you'll be grand!!

On PK he had a bad spell doing that 'Geraldine' ****e but his stand ups, PK Thing, Phoenix Nights, Max and Paddy and Car Share are quality.

    Kevin Bridges I like.

    Kevin Bishop- not so much!

It's been a while since I watched any Kay stand up but from memory most of it relates to his dealings with his family which have probably remained fairly constant throughout his career.

As for his sitcoms then that's like saying a rich actor shouldn't play a poor person in a film because they're not poor any more.

I just mean the stand up

Jason Manford and Sarah Millicant, throw them in too.

Do I just not like Northern Comedians? Acting all working class when they are earning millions. Stupid juvenile humour too

Ahhhhhh now c'mon, it's not in the same league as some Multi Millionaire Superstars asking us to donate to some charity or the likes!?
When I watch a comedian their upbringing, earnings, lifestyle etc etc dont even enter my head.... If they're funny that's good enough for me :D

Everyone to their own but to answer the OP I think he is really good.

    He just has "funny bones".

I' not really familiar with most of his stuff but watched Car Share and I thought it was wonderful. I'll be so disappointed if it doesn't get another season. I need to find out who makes the Christmas Team for god sake!

What ever happened to Max and Paddy? Did the gangsters ever catch up on Max Bygraves and Patrick O'Shea?

I don't find him funny, but I do find other comedians talking about him to be funny. He invites a lot of ire, maybe a grudging jealousy.

I hate 95 % of stand ups. Really crappy unfunny repetitive jokes but Kay for me stands out as someone who's just a really good story teller.

Everyone to their own, but I think saying they should distance themselves from their background because they're rich is a bit much.

No, I mean pretend they still live hand to mouth when clearly- they don't!

Again, I've not seen Kay lately but that doesn't seem to be the case from memory. Certainly not with the likes of that Liverpool lad who's big at the moment.

He's a good story teller and his jokes are easy on the ear but I wouldn't put him in same category as Jason Byrne or David O'Doherty .....

I don't think there is anyone less funny than Jason Byrne

    Love him.
I have all his DVD's and I just love his humour.
I think the reason so many people like him is because his humour resonates with a lot of people.

His observations of normal everyday life are spot-on and he's recalled childhood memories of his that echo my own.
He's down-to-earth, charming and naturally funny.
He's not rude or vulgar and he appeals to all types of people.

Comedy genius. From phoenix nights, max and paddy the stand up, all top notch. Also did a brilliant spoof talent show lampooning x factor type shows. Brilliant

You'd love Phoenix Nights. Well worth a watch if you get a chance.

I like him. Saw him live a few years back and was sore from laughing afterwards. It's not the most sophisticated comedy, but it's funny.

If finding peter kay funny suggests you are from the lower classes, who do those from the upper classes find funny? Jason Byrne?

Enjoy him in character in programs, not a massive fan of his stand up.

He's about as funny as genital warts. His humour is very simple and family friendly, you could bring your granny to see him and she wouldn't be offended. Not my type of comedy at all. I don't necessarily want to go and see someone who just swears gratuitously for the entire show, but I do want to see more adult and edgy humour than Peter Kay offers.

Ah he's alright in small doses. Seen him in the O2 few years back with a family member who loves him and I enjoyed it more than I expected to.

Here's the misheard lyrics part from that tour.

    Ricky Gervais.

    I'm just stirring.

Peter Kay is a gobshyte, Gervais is a genius. Of course comedy is subjective but I'm right...

Now, who's gonna get on here and say(after seeing that simple 5 min clip)that Peter Kay isn't funny, he's very funny and clever!! also someone mentioned Lee Evans as in not funny also!? Please the two lads are bloody hilarious......

Been a few years since I saw it but That Peter Kay Thing was hilarious and series one of Phoenix Nights was all kinds of lovely. There's a strong argument that a lot of the credit should go to the other writers involved in both (Spikey and Fitzmaurice) but Kay was the perfect lead performer for it all. His first standup DVD ain't really my thing but he's obviously very good at what he does and I enjoyed it a lot. As far as hitting a broad audience goes, Kay (Phoenix Nights in particular) is faaaaaaaaaaaarr better than most the stuff that goes for that (Mrs Brown's Boys, I'm looking at you).

Since then he's been retreading the broadest and worst parts of his act to absolutely ridiculous degrees. I mean, this is a guy who released a second recorded performance from the one tour under the guise of a new release one Christmas (I think there's a tiny subtitle on the box saying it's from the same tour, the first DVD doesn't mention the tour's name anywhere though), following that up the next year by a DVD of the kind of things that would normally be bonus features on a proper release (interviews from chat shows and the like).

Just to be clear I'm the kind of comedy snob that tracks down bootlegs of guys like Daniel Kitson and has Woody Allen standup LPs, I'm not some weird obsessive Peter Kay fan/stalker or anything. :o

I find most of his TV shows very likeable (especially That Peter Kay Thing), but I'm not a huge fan of his stand-up. Car Share is really good - right up there with his older stuff. Not exactly laugh-out-loud funny, but... gently amusing. It reminds me of early series of The Royle Family. I hope he does more of that in the future, rather than regurgitating jokes from 1998 in massive arenas.

Eddie Murphy's "Raw" and "Delirious" beats them all.

I laugh like a drain to some of Chris Rocks stuff too. Still like Peter Kay tho, he doesn't even need to try very hard, he just has the funny.
