Busking in Galway?

    (I'm not sure if this is in the right section so feel free to move it)

    Ok so I'm 17, from outside of Galway (a good bit out, I'd only get in on weekends by train..) and I was hope to start busking soon, as a good few people said I should try it (+ the cash wouldn't go astray!)
    I just have a few questions-
    Can I just grab my guitar and start playing? Or do I need a permit?
    Does it matter where I busk? I mean shop street would probably be where I busk (along with the many others)

    Also, what are some tips/things I should know? Like choices etc..
    I realise not to stand too near another busker but apart from that I'm clueless!

    Also I'm using a Martin Lx1e, it seems fairly loud but I don't know if it will be heard on the street and I don't want to use an amp..
