Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Irish Bands?

I'm very out of touch with current Irish bands. Living in Seattle probably doesn't help, but I really want to listen to more.

So, please post current favourite bands or just songs. Thanks in advance!

    :)

Nothing much "new" out there that's really good. I could be showing my age, but there's a lot of trendy bands knocking around, who look good and sound current, but probably won't be around in five or ten years. They're good, but they're not that good.

What type of stuff are you looking for?

It depends what you're looking for really. The Irish music scene is buzzing, there's loads of bands who'd be relatively unknown who are fantastic. I'm a music journalist myself so I'd like to think I'm relatively clued in :P

What kind of things are you looking for?

    Alt/Indie/rock really.

Sorry i'm awful at the genres.

I suppose i'm looking for names, lists, playlists, reviews, links, youtube, etc. Anything I can use as a start point. As I said I'm in Seattle and I was asked by a friend about current Irish bands and I came up pretty short.

All I could come up with was ash, bell x1 and the Villagers, oh and wallis bird, Lisa Hannigan and damien rice.

Not a very vibrant list, so i'm just wondering what else is out there?

'O Emperor' are a pretty good band.

'Fight Like Apes' not for everyone but I like some of their stuff.

'The Minutes' also good, but better live than on record, fiercer anyway.

Right, I'll try give you a selection.

Bitch Falcon (grungy three piece, pretty amazing),
Delorentos (solid band, around a good while now),
Overhead, The Albatross (solid post rock band, very atmospheric),
    Yes Cadets (dancey goodness),
    RSAG (insane drumming),
Jape (bit of a rock and electronic blend),
I second O Emperor who were mentioned above,
Codes (great band, new album soon)
    Enemies (math rocky goodness)
All Tvvins (sort of super group, seriously solid band)

    And I could go on...

Brilliant. Thanks for all the names.

    A few well known ones:

    - Little Green Cars: they are fairly big here.

    - O Emperor: for me aswell, should get more recognition.

    - Cast of Cheers: I like them alot, math rock, think Foals.

    - And So I Watch You From Afar: heavy instrumental, insane live

    - Mick Flannery: similar to the artists you mentioned, decent enough

    - James Vincent Mcmorrow: Bon Iver esque, great voice.

    - Delorentos: Little Sparks was a quality album, their latest is pretty dam good too.

    - Windings - Been quiet on the scene lately, but a solid Limerick band.

    - HamSandwich: Seen them a few times live, pretty good.

I was probably a bit harsh in what I said earlier. The recommendations are good. Check out new and older bands on the Out On A Limb label, Some nice stuff on there. The last few Windings albums are worth a listen.
dREA "bravest of all" worth a listen.
    Fox Jaw
    Cities

Halves are another one to give a listen to.

JVM & RSAG are unreal. Both do superb live sets especially RSAG the guy is incredible!

Surprised no one has mentioned God Is An Astonaut yet! Or do they not count because they're only ever touring in Europe!

If you fancy something a little dancy then Bantum is pretty cool.

True it was him who said it. I like the way he is aiming for the big time by requesting his songs are taken down from Spotify thats so baller.

Nobody mentioned Irish Bluegrass (Greengrass?) so I will.....have a listen to "I Draw Slow".

Mick Flannery is a superb writer and performer....and guaranteed to see the pessimistic side of anything ;-)

If you like girl bands turn your ear to Wyvern Lingo...

Girl Band. The industrial sound won't be for everyone but I'm a fan anyway. They are starting to make ground over in the US as well.
