Painting Roof - Slate Our roof slates have badly discoloured, once black many are now light grey. They started to fade within the guarantee period and we have recently got the go ahead to repair them. Painting them has been suggested. Anyone know anything about this? Is painting slate the way to go? Can you get a guarantee…

Painting Roof - Slate
Our roof slates have badly discoloured, once black many are now light grey. They started to fade within the guarantee period and we have recently got the go ahead to repair them. Painting them has been suggested. Anyone know anything about this? Is painting slate the way to go? Can you get a guarantee with this? Any information would be greatly appreciated. We have to pay for some of it ourselves so want to get it right and not make it worse or watch our money go down the drain, literally.

Yes you can paint them. Clean them down and seal them. You can buy lacquer in whatever colour you want and brush it on.
