I think his point was that it was difficult to find sweeper bulls that wouldn't be related to at least some of animals they would be used on.

Not really an issue wheather you keep related bulls.

100 cows 80% to ai 20 cows to bull 10 bull calves sell 10 sbull heifers, where's the issue even if you keep 10% may be related to some of the herd the % keeps dropping. 4 good feet and a good engine alls required once calving isn't an issue

I know many wouldn't agree with me but i wouldn't sell closely bred animals unless i was to sell them in the yard and tell the buyer they were closely bred. I prefer to breed animals i could use myself and not hand off any potentially dodgy animals to an unsuspecting buyer.

Most of my cull stock go to 4-5 buyers and i wouldn't endanger the relationship i have built up with them to make a quick profit with poorer stock. Probably just me:(

BT, I know you can read so don't selectively quote from my post claiming the higher ground.

I do agree with you on having regard for customers but you missed the point of my post entirely which was that the numbers of related animals are tiny.

I feel you may have clients who are Boardsies ;);)

Not claiming any high ground, frazzled. I have experienced at first hand the effects that inbreeding can lead to and i wouldn't wish anyone further down the line the head-wreck it leads to.

Like i said, i value my customers and wouldn't like to lose the core group that i sell to by losing them customers down the line. They know all the reasons i am selling the animals to them and are happy to keep returning.

I realise the number is small but, for me, it is too big even at that.

And, no, i don't sell to Boardsies but i do sell to ex-Boardsies and others on another site.:pac:

hoofcare man was saying dairy sale was stopped in carnaross last week, not many sold, also upcoming sale of 380 stock up the north soon might hamper some of the northern buyers coming down

Tis the internet, people are going to disagree with some of what everyone says.

I'm old enough not to be offended by most of what's said.

And tough on me when I am.:-)

Was browsing through done deal and seen adds posted concerning glanbia and their turn around on requiring farmers to be shared up to avail of support fund seems alot of lads where guaranteed on signing of contract last year no shares would be needed to avail of all glanbia price supports etc with press releases given at the time supporting this seems they have pissed of a good chunk of their suppliers in the northern counties who are now down thousands as opposed to if they had lakeland suppliers our any other co-op for that matter
see the letter in the farming indo today about it

You get used to the pool being slagged, especially with some of the posters over there who are supposed to be supporters:p

But seriously, that is where the line is drawn:mad::pac:

Isn't there a historical section there?

think you can get it monthly / daily at least for a nearby station:-

    http://www.met.ie/climate/daily-data.asp

If not there are some raw data API's available to get at the free databases / models which power many of the online weather apps.
