You know the song. Has a wistful air. Always in the background on the radio when emotional letters or stories are read out.

Used more in an ironic way these days.

If you mean the backing music to Our Tune, the thing where a sad letter was read out on BBC Radio (a format adopted by other stations - and hilariously lampooned by Viz

) it's the theme from Romeo & Juliet (the 1960s film adaptation).

There's a rake of versions. It has become a bit naff now, but nice piece of music originally. Great film music composer, Nino Rota (The Godfather theme would be his most famous work).
