Those Puntos if looked after are fairly reliable.
Well done getting it back into shape.

Me, I think. 'cept I'm not. As we all know, there are no girls on the internet.

I used my OH's account on DD. :) Too many passwords.

Some serious luxobarges for tiny money in ireland. I live in UK atm. Does anyone think it would be worth my while bringing one or two over to UK to drive or to sell at a small profit? Just having a muse after seeing that jaguar xj a few pages back.

clean looking and if the only work is what is listed, then could be a nice find -

I love these - they were bold enough with the colours back then

And it's good thing they did.

That 190E looks great, too bad it's not Cosworth though.

Cheap S3, wonder what's wrong with it that it doesn't have an NCT.
Edit: Can someone tell me if that's coming up as €1,950 or €2,950?

Well, the punto shifted fairly quick, so have already bought my next 'project' :

    42376132.jpeg

2002 Stilo 1.6 16V with an intermittent "Engine Fault" indicator, broken door handle but perfect bodywork and clean interior. Oddly, it still has an NCT until January 2016 and even had a whiff of tax.

    Bought for 750

I think Ive sorted the engine issue, now it needs a service. A rattle from the rear is more than likely worn silentbloc hydraulic bush. I will have a go at geting that out and replaced when the summer gets here!! :)

I love those Stilos, even if their reputation for faults is justified.

I always liked those stilos. I think the only car that looks good in that colour :)

Alfa 145 and the 916 spider look the sex in that colour. As do the fiat coupe.

There was an abarth stilo, mating parts of its engine with the coupes 20v turbo can get rediculous power.

Its a great colour - Giallo Ginestra - best used ( imho) in the Delta Integrale. The paintwork is still very shiney, although its had some new paint at some point, it was done very well.

They have a lot of issues, but most engine ones are related to the poor location of the ecu on top of the engine. The pins drop into the ecu due to heat and no longer make proper contacts. Some folk heat the pins to melt the solder and push them back, but that adds too much heat to the board. I just soldered a little dot to the top of the short pin...

Was that causing the engine fault? Has it got as well climate control? Has the panoramic roof which was a very expensive option back then so you may have gotten a nicely spec'd one :)

The error stored was a motorised throttle fault, so I cleaned those contacts back to the ecu. Fingers crossed, but its been running fine all day, no errors.

No climate - just A/C. The sunroof is stuck, but the motor works (when you force a reset) so its repairable. But I will only do that when everything else is sorted.

But I think I can make it a nice car. Im already plotting 1.8 transplant... :)

What sort of 1.8? I'd say if you could find a 2.4 engine you'd be laughing ;) but they wouldn't be at all easy to find.

from the 1.8 stilo, or punto hgt. 130hp out of the box, and 150 with some evil ecu hackery.

Its an easier job than putting a 2.4 into it. But there is an abarth for sale for peanuts if I had wanted it:

bumblebee was closer, cheaper and nct'ed :)

better off going 1.8hgt as the 2.4 i5 and autobox in the arbath stilo is supposed to be a bad unpredictable match;)

wear well with the new stilo btw look forward to updates :)

    Thank you :)

Honestly, I will only consider a swap if the current motor has any issues. Im as happy with a well fettle'd 1.6 as anything else. But if needs must, it will be the 1.8

The later (2005+) abarths had a manual option as far as I know - these are definitely the ones to go for. The selespeed just has too much potential for expensive repairs. This is banger-fixerupper-nomics after all!

My brother had one of these a while back when his 520d was off the road.

    Miserable is not the word

I had an AX diesel many centuries ago. It was also miserable but incredibly miserable on diesel too. Drive the stones outta it and it still managed over 50 to The gallon. 60 was the daily commute. Buttons to buy and tax, driving don't come any cheaper.

An AX diesel is better, Saxos (diesel or otherwise fueled) are just miserable. AXs are fcuking class actually, I saw on fb only today some chap did a sub 10 minute Ring lap in a ph1 106 diesel (which is basically a AX)

A 1.8/2.0 16v twinspark or 2.0JTS from whatever Alfa share the same basic block as the 1.8hgt and should be easier sourced

Do the 106 and Saxo not share a body shell with slightly different front end and bootlid? Both related to the AX but more so to each other.

Used to tear around the backroads in an AX 10 RE when I was a nipper. Picked it up for around £100 as I recall. Wouldn't pull the skin off a bananna but don't you know now had mighty crack with it all the same...fun timessmile.png
