Kilkenny is full of students in uniforms doing the leaving cert the exam that everyone spends the whole time saying is the the hardest exams you will ever do and college is a walk in the park after them. First day of college engineering calculus lecturer "right I'm going to be straight with you all 60% of you will be repeating this exam in August and over 25% will fail first year because of this exam so if you don't put the work in you will fail and if you do put the work in you might still fail."

But yay leaving cert are the 'difficult exams' :pac: ah sure as the saying goes anything that's worthwhile is never easy.

In other news rsa have a huge double tent marque set up in my local supervalu and are checking car seats are fitted correctly and the correct seat for the car for free great idea at least they are getting out there and helping the community for once.

It's not that they're the hardest on their own, but collectively they are difficult. 7+ subjects which are completely unrelated, as opposed to a programme someone chooses to pursue in college. It's a topic they're interested in, so should have a liking/better ability for it. I'm not saying college is easy by any means though.

They set the barrier as to what one can do in college, so in that respect they are important.

So I wonder if this is what's causing the humming noise?
The tyre is Michelin and only 10k old.
In general its cracking so regardless if its causing the noise or not it needs to go.
Oh and my ac packed in today..
Might be the coil in the compressor

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,540 ✭✭✭Special Circumstances

    That don't look right!!
Is the noise due to that alone or some other wheel/suspension related issue causing that...

What's the date code on the tyre out of interest - 4 digit number somwhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

When putting your front tyres on back and back on front, do they change the tyres or just move the front wheels to the back and vice versa?

Jeepers Bear that tyre does not look healthy at all.... Was it bought new?

You seem to honestly have absolutely no luck with this car at all...!

Not right at all, that is the rear left hand side tyre.
Can't tell for now if that is actually what is causing the noise but I'm going to assume it may very well be.
The other tyres are fine but this one looks more like a 50k tyre than one that has done 10k.
I'll take a look in a few minutes to see what the actual date of the tyre is and maybe get one or two more pics of the rest of tyres as a comparison.

To be honest I wouldn't really know.
I left my car in with them one day and picked it up after work.
From the past however they were switching from front to back judging on the tyres condition I believe.

They were bought "new" indeed, at least that's what I was assured.
My own stupidity not double checking but I use them all the time so I trusted them.

@Bear1 I really hope you get that car sorted soon you must have the patience of a saint to still have it. To be straight if I had had it I probably would have got rid of it before you even done the chain as you had had a good few issues with it at that stage and I have a strict 3 strikes policy with any car I don't mind small things but yokes loosing power and making weird noises I would have no time for as for me once I don't trust it anymore then it needs to go.

Anyway hopefully this wheel bearing once its done will put all the issues to bed and you'll get some trouble free motoring out of it.

Ok so here are more pics of the **** tyre.
Sorry I cpuldnt find a four digit date but.i wonder if its the hu1952?

I agree completely. I think the main issue I had was that with a baby on the way and mortage payments etc I just didn't find it feasible to sell the car (at a loss more than likely) and then try and find something else which would suit our needs and all in a small amount of time.
Sounds silly I know but with all the stress at the time I just wanted it sorted and that's it.
Re the bearing, I'm quite sure it isn't the bearing but that tyre as the noise just doesn't change when turning and it's not a tranny issue as the noise is there clutch in or not.
So my hope is that it's the tyre.
Next week it goes in to have the injectors (the rattling problem I mentioned a while back) checked and repaired if needed.
After that, if something else goes then it will also have to go.

    Amazing for a "new" tyre isn't it...
The rest are fine but that one needs to go before it kills me or worse when my daughter and wife are in it.

Nope. It's usually in a kind of oval field, either inside (so may be hidden from your view until you take a wheel off a car or get under it) or outside.

    Examples:

    1507 - tyre made 15th week of 2007
    0913 - tyre made 9th week of 2013.

Edit: one of your tyres is made 20th week of 2003, as seen on the photo uploaded. Old, very old...

    What is it a 206 ?

Is the ad fairly decent Id imagine they will attract learner drivers just give it some time.

    2009 Volkswagen Polo

Only seven 2009 Volkswagen Polo diesel's on donedeal.. If I exclude the bluemotion version & the newer-shape version then that leave's five.. Asking price for the five range from €8300 to €9500.

I have it up for my sister, but if its not sold by the weekend then I'll be putting my number on it, giving the car a good polish, try to get better pictures of it and dropping the price.

Kind of disappointing that she got no calls considering the mechanic & two salesmen we were talking to said that she should definitely get €9500 for it and it should sell in no time.

€9,450 is very strong money for a Polo of that era in a private sale. There are cheaper cars from dealers on Carzone.

8 of the same models on carzone ranging from €8300 to €10500.

There are cheaper from dealers alright but this one has fresh NCT, new tyres, very low mileage and a tad bit of tax on it. Along with the car being in very good condition.

I guess the only thing I can do is lower the price and see how it goes then!

Anyone think I can do anything to improve the layout of the ad or is it fine the way it is?

The tax is minuscule anyway to be fair.
Don't know why you think you're not competing with blue motion models? There's one on dd for €7450
You're dreaming if you think someone would buy yours over the one in Sinnott autos, a few dealer with finance facilities, presale check and warranty.

The Polo I have here is a Comfortline model, which has a few differences from the Bluemotion model.

Also, that bluemotion model seems very cheap. Its also coming up as a UK import and the mileage is in kilometres, according to the ad.

I asked the Volkswagen salesman about the bluemotion when we bought this car in 2013 and he said that the bluemotion are more popular in the UK but not half as much here. Mostly because of the looks (different front bumper, I presume he meant) and there was another reason that I cant think of now.

I'd lower the price down to 9k with room for negotiation.
Also, have you got the car advertised on DD?
I took a glance and for example there is a red 09 Polo with the same engine but with a months longer NCT and it's going for 8750 and a warranty. Granted it has twice the kms.
There is a bluemotion 09 Polo also which is 2k less than yours but with a shorter NCT.
I mean to be honest, someone could spend an extra 300 quid and get the FL Polo:

    http://cars.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sale/2010-volkswagen-polo-1-6-tdi-comfortline/9453725?offset=9

These are your competitors so the price really needs to be changed.

€9k was the original price we said we'd advertise it at but our mechanic convinced us to change it! I'll update the ad and change the price by the weekend.

With the Polo in the link, there seems to be an issue with the 1.6tdi in the Polo's. I was talking to a Vw salesman in Kilkenny and he said there was an issue so that's why its a smaller diesel engine in them now. Im not sure what the issue was, and I never heard of any problems with them, but there must have been something!

I think you need to stop asking VW salesmen.
Get the price more in line with the competition and then see if anyone calls.

They're not as popular here as there wasn't any real advantage tax wise over a standard tdi as our lowest threshold is higher than in the UK.
In the UK you got free road tax and possibly not have to pay the congestion charge or something. In the UK they cost more than the normal tdi but the savings supposedly make it worth it.

I'll try improve the ad and lower the price the weekend, thanks for all the advice!

Also, Im still looking for a car for myself. Insurance is cruel and I seen an article today that its after increasing up to 30% for young drivers.

Looks like a clean car infairness but even with the vw premium the price is strong I only paid that for my Megane in a renault dealer but then I know that's not a vw so not really a fair comparison.
