What sort of proscessor speeds / ram size etc would I need to run the most CPU intensive mame roms currently kicking around? I'm thinking of setting up a cabinet and I don't want it looking great but playing the games at a snails pace.

MK2 is the most cpu intensive i found.
    1ghz + with 512 ram should suffice.

MK2 isn't even close to some of the games in mame as far as cpu use-age goes. Killer instinct alone will eat the cpu alive.
Theres no way to accurately build a machine to run mame, maybe for a few months at best as mame continuously gets slower and the games it adds continue to require more and more cpu time. The namco system XX games will be added correctly soon enough. And that will take a monster of a cpu.

Right now, if you had a 2Ghz with 256 of ram, i think you'd be relatively safe for all of the top end games. That said, i don't have all the top end stuff and i know from forums that there are ppl with 3Gig machines that can't get 60 fps out of certain games.
