Too true. Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane famously kept off the No 1 spot by Englebert Humptydick and Please Release Me. The public, eh ?

Some line up at this yoke, and the tickets were free!

Not sure what Snoop Doggy Dog is doing on the New Music Stage.

That clown refused to get off stage at Oxegen for 30 minutes past his scheduled finish and messed up the rest of the timings.

Sex and Drugs and Rock n Roll and Punctuality, that's what you want!

The Strypes+Ash+Hozier+Kaiser Chiefs+Foo Fighters at Slane next Saturday.

Best line up in years. I am tempted to go but I don't want to miss the last ever Saturday Night Show :(

Maybe the Foo will take a break and they will stream Brendan on the big screens :D

I recall an interview where Dave Grohl said he never misses a SNS, he likes to catch up on what Gerald Keane is up to

    :)

Wait until Dave sees that video of the Taylor Swift/Def Leppard concert I posted a while back.

    'Congregation' - good song :)

Looks like a good line-up for Slane, but...

    *record scratches*

No disrespect to Hozier, but he shouldn't be on the bill - an odd choice IMO

Taylor Hawkins - fantastic drummer :)

Greetings Pop pickers, another chance to see the legendary Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars Concert this week. One of the best programmes ever broadcast on BBC4 on a Friday Night, in my opinion. Elsewhere there's a new programme about being obsessed with Pop groups and an ultra rare BBC1 outing for TOTP2, as part of their FA Cup final buildup

    Friday

7.30pm Nina Simone and me, with Laura Mvula
The soul singer travels to New York City to explore the songs made famous by Simone that mean the most to her, and trace the late singer's musical roots with the help of those who knew the `High Priestess of Soul'. Laura reveals the influence of Nina's classical training, meets Simone's long-time guitarist Al Shackman and performs with a Harlem gospel choir as she pays tribute to the genius of her musical heroine

9pm & 12.30am When Pop Ruled My Life: The Fans Story
From the Beatles to One Direction, there has always been a unique relationship between musical artists and their fans. Journalist Kate Mossman explores how this connection has developed over the last 50 years of music, as well as her own evolving fascination with the band Queen

    10pm & 1.30am I'm in a Boy Band!
Documentary exploring what it is to be a music star, in particular within a boy band. Featuring contributions by a cross-generational selection of artists, including members of Motown ensembles the Four Tops and the Jackson 5, as well as modern groups such as One Direction

11pm & 2.30am Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars
DA Pennebaker's documentary chronicling David Bowie's legendary 1973 concert at Hammersmith Odeon, when he performed for the last time in the guise of glam-rock alter ego Ziggy Stardust. Songs include Changes, Time, Rock 'n' Roll Suicide and Oh! You Pretty Things

    11.05pm (BBC2) Later With Jools
Extended edition of Tuesday's live show, featuring Muse, who play tracks from their seventh studio album Drones, jazz singer Melody Gardot and Washington group Sleater-Kinney, who released their first album in almost a decade earlier this year, No Cities to Love. Peggy Seeger makes an appearance, continuing to help the British folk revival with a track from her recent album Everything Changes, and providing his slice of original blues boogie is American singer-songwriter Seasick Steve, performing tracks from his album Sonic Soul surfer. Making her debut on the show is London based dreamy balladeer ALA.NI, who is putting a contemporary touch on a 1940s-50s sound. Plus, acclaimed producer Giorgio Moroder, the man behind Donna Summer classic I Feel Love and Phil Oakey's Electric Dreams, will also be dropping into the studio. Last in the series

    Saturday

    2.05pm (BBC1) TOTP2
Mark Radcliffe marks the final round of the FA Cup by providing football fans with a chance to revisit some of the best (and worst) songs produced to celebrate the tournament's conclusion over the years. Viewers at home will be able to make use of social media to vote for their favourite tunes, meaning that woeful ditties such as Manchester United's 1996 song Move Move Move, featuring a youthful Paul Scholes, David Beckham and the Neville brothers, could feature alongside the arguably more `professional' sounding efforts of the London Community Gospel Choir, which sang Abide With Me - the FA Cup's traditional anthem - ahead of Chelsea's clash with Everton at Wembley in 2009

7pm Blue Note a Story of Modern Jazz Thanks Harry Palmr for the tip
Documentary exploring the history of Blue Note Records, the jazz record label established in 1939 by Alfred Lion and Francis Wolff after they emigrated to New York from Nazi Germany. Arriving in the US, Lion and Wolff `discovered' jazz, an American art form that was largely being ignored by the mainstream. This film reveals how the duo overcame linguistic and financial difficulties to bring global attention to artists such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Thelonius Monk and Art Blakey, who are now considered masters of the genre

8.30 Jazz 625: The Dave Bribeck Quartet
Restored programme from 1964, featuring the pianist performing with Paul Desmond on alto sax, bassist Gene Wright and drummer Joe Morello. Introduced by Steve Race

11pm Kenny Rogers: Cards on The Table
Documentary chronicling Rogers' career and the golden era of country music he helped usher in, reflecting on how he rose to become a superstar selling over 120 million albums worldwide. Making use of a candid interview with the performer, the film also looks at his success in other fields, including tennis and photography. Contributors include singer, songwriter and producer Kim Carnes, actor and musician Mickey Jones and long-time friend Lionel Richie

Midnight Country Queens at the BBC
A compilation of archive performances by female country-music stars from a variety of BBC studio shows. Featured acts include Bobbie Gentry, Anne Murray, Emmylou Harris, Taylor Swift, Crystal Gayle, Tammy Wynette, Billie Jo Spears, and Lucinda Williams with Mary Chapin Carpenter

1am Top of The Pops 1980
Peter Powell presents an edition first broadcast May 8, 1980. Includes performances by the Human League, Michael Jackson, Matchbox, the Ruts, OMD and Dexys Midnight Runners

    Sunday

11pm BB King The Life of Riley
Documentary in which the late American blues singer-songwriter recounts his story of a rise to prominence in the music industry, earning him the title `King of the Blues'. Born into a world of oppression in the cotton plantations outside Berclair, Mississippi, he went on to assemble his own band under the guidance of Millard Lee and found widespread popularity with his Singin' the Blues album in the Elvis-charged swinging zeitgeist of 1956. His talent showed no bounds, and more than half a century later he released his 42nd studio album, One Kind Favor, by which time he was well into his eighties. Filmed in locations across the States, as well as the United Kingdom, and featuring contributions by a range of fellow musicians including Eric Clapton, Bono, George Benson and Mick Hucknall. Narrated by Morgan Freeman

My favourite Football song is probably The Anfield Rap. I always expect John Barnes to start doing his Rap at the start when I hear Whitney Houston's 'I wanna dance with somebody', because that's the order in which they appeared on my 'taped off the radio' tape in the Summer of 1988. Happy Days.

Movie action comes in the form of SoulBoy (BBC2, Friday Night 12.10am)
"A teenager leads a dull, directionless life in the 1970s until a brassy hairdresser introduces him to the exciting world of the Northern Soul underground music scene. An artist takes an interest in him and helps him to reinvent himself, causing a love triangle to develop. Drama, starring Martin Compston, Felicity Jones and Nichola Burley"

Although there's always Anchorman tonight at 10 on RTE2. Take it away, Ron :)

    Nice one Skid.

My favourite football song by a million miles is Put Em Under Pressure, not sure if it counts here.

I also very much liked the one the Fulham fans used to sing:

    "Al Fayed oooo-oh,
    Al Fayed. O-o-o-oh!
    He wants...to be...a Brit
    And Q...PR are sh*t"

Or the one about Burnley that's sung by Preston North End fans: "Always look on the Turf Moor for shíte."

Expect it to be sung plenty of times next season as the two play each other in the Championship. :D;)

Hard to believe Giorgio Moroder is 75 now.

On TOTP, meanwhile, the Musicians' Union strike is less than a month away... :D

    The Anfield Rap.

    That is all.

I'm sick as a parrot that there is no TOTP next week (because Dave Lee Travis was presenting and he's a bad un).

It would have featured this epic Tiswas song, which was the first song I ever remember seeing on TOTP. I remember thinking it was brilliant that something I watched on Saturday Mornings had got onto proper grown up telly.

TV Cream reports that it will be on a compilation programme instead next week, but it's not the same.

    Damn you DLT.
