Ummm guys, when can I expect Little Kiwi to be collected and placed with his new, gay parents? I'm not meaning to be pushy but would like to be able to plan the rest of my weekend! I would like to go out and celebrate with a couple of glasses of wine before I am conscripted as a surrogate and can't drink for 9 months!

You'll have to wait your turn, I'm still waiting for the EU storm troopers we were promised by run for the hills as part of voting yes in the last EU referendum to come and take my kids away!!

Im so so happy to hear this, almost elated. You have no idea how much this means to a gay teenager living in Ireland, thank you so very much to anyone who went out of their way to vote and even more so to the people who travelled thousands of miles to come home to vote. You made a lot of people very happy, thank you so much :p

I assume you'll invite all of us yes voter internet strangers to your wedding when you're older and planning one? :P

Hi wakka12, I said to you the other day in the LGBT forum that it's society that needs to change not you, well that's just happened!!!! I'm so delighted for you. Congratulations!

I can't stop crying. Relief and stress and peace. Ireland has done an extraordinary thing, led by a younger generation. A hugely powerful message of acceptance and equality and inclusion. Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you. I have lived most of my life on the margins and in the shadows. Ireland has invited me into the sunshine today. Thank you thank you thank you.

Dear god, I can't stand Enda Kenny. Mumbling nonsense here on RTE and looking out of his depth as usual!

It's depressing how a civil rights/equality issue has been turned into a political issue (more votes next year I suppose!) but congrats to all YES supporters. As mentioned before, didn't vote myself as I've moved constituency recently and have no stake in the issue either way but well done.

Any word on the Presidential vote?
Fair enough but saying you have no stake in the issue is either selfish or short sighted.
I agree on everything else you are saying.

That fool fidelma Healy eames is on rte 1 now. Acting all smarmy congratulating the Yes side. She is still harping on about surrogacy and adoption. Apparently gay people were always equal to her. I think that anyone using 'the' before 'gay people' need to be shot.

All no voters, please look at the two posts above and numerous others all over boards and reflect.

Great result but thankfully it is all over. A lot of very important matters swept under the rug in the last few weeks. The referendum couldn't have come at a better time for the Govt.

Good point! I was subjected to verbal abuse on two occasions for promoting equality! I want wedding invites as compensation! ;)

Aside from the obvious 'yay equality' stuff, I really like that so many young people got up and voted.

So many things we vote on, the older generation are the only ones to vote.

Hopefully this is a sign that in the future, young people will get up and make their voices heard, because everything we vote on has an effect on the younger generation, too.

Looks like it's a question of how much now, thank god for that! The entire world is watching and it would be a serious embarrassment if the no side won, and of course it would be sad for all gay couples as well.

I think it's good that this referendum galvanised us younger people a bit. I've been registered to vote since I was 18 but a lot of my friends who weren't all registered to vote yes for this. It's more significant than just a referendum on marriage equality, in reality it has the potential to politicise an entire younger generation which is no harm.

A victory for the LGBT community yes but a victory for the young people of Ireland also.
Irelands youth have been spat on and **** on since 2008 as the older generation pulled the ladder up. We showed today how great we can be.

Now she's saying that the No side were under represented by TDs and senators. They were all supporting Yes. Maybe because they knew that the change to the constitution was black and white. Idiot!!

But if living abroad for 18 months or over they don't have a right, whether yes or no.

But they should. German's always maintain their right to vote under the assumption they will return to their homeland.

You're always Irish. You should always have a say in your home country.

Well done to all on the YES vote. I hope that all gay people feel the same as everyone else now. You should do. As a dad I am so happy that my son can now feel proud of his country. Ireland is a fantastic country and so are its citizens.

    Proud to be Irish today.

Not one NO vote to be seen in the Northside at the beginning of the tally. So to all the people who judge the northsiders, you should open your eyes a bit further.

They stood up for what they believe in, just like you did in this referendum. Equality is a two way street buddy.

    What is discrimination?

The whole country will be on the piss tonight. It will be one of the biggest celebrations ever.

I'd say it was like St.Stephens night out in a lot of towns last night, with everyone home.

I said that as a straight person. It is petty on behalf of the No side. Still trying to put gay people in their place. The gays will never be equal to straight people with that attitude. It's condescending at best.

Side note: FG not doing too well in the current tally's from Carlow-Kilkenny. Level with SF with FF ahead by a fair margin... wonder is that a sign of things to come?

It's illegal. That's really what it comes down to.
