Fellas would want to get the thumb out. I drove from Tramore to Blarney today via Kilrenny, Freshford and the M8. I doubt if I saw 200 acres of silage knocked. Someone else came the more direct route by the N25 and said he saw a good bit of activity along that route. Weather is reasonably settled for the next few days in this area but after that you never know.

Most crops looked well ready from the road.

Couldn't agree more, new sheets every time

do you use 2 or 3 new sheets every time?

Sheet the walls down to a few feet in on the floor and then two new sheets over top and shoulders. All the vulnerable areas and those most likely to be poorly consoilidated then have three sheets. We had three to pull on the top sheets on a 60×80 pit after first cut. Once they were anchored two of us had the tyres on in a little over two hours after the dinner. All truck tyres, put on top of pit with ind spec teleporter. She'll reach most of the way to the middle of the pit from either side so lad laying the tyres out is waiting a good bit. I've been involved with pit covering operations where the row over which ball of sh1t was going up on the pit first would be only really getting going after that amount of time. A couple of the neighbours will hire in the teleporter for pit covering others with their own will pull on sheets and then roll them back to allow loader drive up along pit with tyres which is pretty fast as well.

We made s bit of a day of it. Picked Mrs Free up from work in Kilkenny, went for pizzas and headed on. There's some mixture of land types on that route.

What's the highest dm I can expect out of silage that isn't racked or teddered etc? Ours will be left to wilt in the swards until Monday.

Yeh conditioned. We've made pure water some years, 19% dm, runs through the cows, not at all good for winter milk... We've struggled to ever get the dm above 25% for 1st cut 2bh, this year is probably the longest we'll have ever left it to wilt though.

25% many little more ,top will be fine but middle of swarth damp, grass cut this early needs to be Tedded .all conditioner dose is fluff swarth up ,don't see point.contractor here runs 3 butterfly mowers with no conditioners .local dealer here has seen huge demand for 4 and 6 rotor tendders this year and struggled to keep up with demand.big swing to high quality high dm silage here with lads going for less bulk and more quality
