Your argument is closer to having a separate bus for gay people, that uses the same routes, just because.
But Jimbob.... you and me would never wish to sit together, so why "marry us" in the constrictions of the same law.

We largely get on fine when we "live and let live". You do your thing and I do mine.

You're not allowed to call it a bus. Buses have a long 2000 year history and tradition and have always been defined as a big metal box with wheels that has a bunch of straight people in it.

Except that tomorrow, you're not going to vote to 'let live', are you?

What if our thing is "marry a gay"? We're not asking you to do the same.

Someone who has never set foot in Ireland, but has an Irish born granny and who registers their birth with the FBR is as much an Irish citizen as someone who was born and raised here. How can you legally discriminate against one and not the other?

The law is quite clear. If you're out of the country for longer than 18 months or plan to remain out of the country for longer than 18 months, then you're not entitled to vote. This is going to be widely abused tomorrow. People see it as a good thing as it benefits their side. They are failing to look at the bigger picture. This could cause turmoil in future referendums that are much tighter.

Are we a nation of laws or what?

You can discriminate by only allowing first generation emigrants who are citizens and have resided in the country and joined the electoral role here. But anyway we better end this line of conversation as its way off topic.

To be perfectly honest I wouldn't care if aliens flew in from outer space to vote yes tomorrow. The equal rights of a minority group are not something that should be being decided by public vote in the first place.

Husband and husband or wife and wife probably. The idea of 2 people of the same gender marrying isnt a brand new idea created by this referendum, other countries have been doing it for years.

What will your smarriage called them? Spouse1 and Spouse2?
What shall the boxes on the marriage form say?
Currenty its - Husband marries Wife.

Should it say - Husband or Wife marries Husband or Wife.....getting messy yet?

'Twas the night before the referendum,
    And all through the house,
    They're getting ready to decide
    On a same sex spouse.

    We've heard all the arguments,
Had them rammed down our throat.
    Whether you're a Yes or a No,
    Just get out and vote!

    Best of luck tomorrow everybody!

Going to vote NO to send it back to the drawing board, and get it right.

Imagine all the extra ink we're going to have to buy for those 4 extra words.

Husband/Wife and Husband/Wife then. How do other countries manage it? We have plenty of example to work from and arent going into this blind, something which the no side seems to ignore. You asked what are they called anyway, not how will they layout the forms.

Just a bit less messy than creating an entire new form of marriage.

    Husband/Wife and Husband/Wife then.
Phew. That'll save on the ink, I suppose.

Hey guys and gals..checking in from England here and just wanted to say 'good luck' and that. Do find people meddling in stranger's business on such a large scale quite bemusing in the 21st century but oh well (I mean the No side before anyone gets any ideas :p)

I don't see how you could word that in such a way that it would be legally binding. You're advocating for different tiers of citizenship. As for your last paragraph - the law is quite clear. If you support electoral fraud, that's your beeswax. But don't dare complain about corruption in Irish politics ever again. As that would make you a huge hypocrite.

If they use black and white anyway those colour cartridge's are fierce expensive. If they are printing forms In colour definitely voting no.

Considering you're advocating segregation I wouldn't be too quick to claim others don't understand consequences.

Just reading down through his previous posts on the referendum and it seems he understands very little about what we're actually voting for tomorrow

One thing that really pushes me to vote "Yes" is when I look at the mothers and fathers matter Facebook page and I see the comments written by people with children.
MAFM is more honest and less sinister than Iona in that their arguments are blatantly and unashamedly bigoted and homophobic. Of course Iona are too but one has to admire them in a way that you simply cannot MAFM; they have skills and play the game very well unfortunately.

Assuming you are husband, are you happy to be spouse 1 or 2?
Are you fullly ok with the Prince and the Prince getting married 50% of the time?

Do you know the amount of family law court cases exist, and how they all can be re-interpreted?
You cannot change the constitution without having knock on affects on exiting marriages, families and children.

Law and the legal process are not that clinical. We shall rerun the issues of this referendum several times per year in the courts..forever.

No not different tiers of citizenship but people only being allowed to join the electoral role in Ireland, with proof that they reside in Ireland. Then they can stay on it. No overseas or non resident applicants to join the electoral role.

Would you applaud them if they were likely to vote No?

The law is quite simple in this area - you don't live here, you don't have a say.

God no! I would shout about them, stamp my feet and trawl legislation to find any scintilla of legal loopholes to back up my case because they dared to voice an opinion that was contrary to mine.

Hows-about something like in the referendum wording “Marriage in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex.”
