How do educated men and women believe this ? That is what I can't get my head round . Hundreds of families go homeless and that's ok , hundreds of 16 year old boys rub one out tonight and God abandons the country !

Cognitive dissonance. If Irish people really believed this stuff then they wouldn't eat an Irish breakfast.

    Google "things banned in Leviticus".

I suppose for the No side its a bit like in the movie Armageddon, to see if against the odds their plucky team of ignorant rednecks have saved the day and avoided the end of christian civilisation as they know it.

Christian Civilisation??? were you in O'Connell St yesterday afternoon when the Save Christian Civilisation group from Swords were handing out leaflets on saving marriage by voting no?

so it will be a good night for the gay folk on Saturday with the yes vote winning and the eurovision finals being on

Will there be a big deal for the first gay couple to be church married in Ireland

Do you know what I find great out of all this?
All the young straight allies that support equality for the gay community.

I'll be forever in a debt of gratitude the Yes voters tomorrow

This is civil marriage - nothing to do with church marriages

Something tells me there is a huge Silent No group watching this thread without contributing. I imagine them seething because all their arguments have been rubbished and yet they still insist on voting No...because they don't like being told what to do or something.

Is there a faith that does gay marriage in the state?

I'm sure some of the Christian denominations would. Like Unitarians etc.

Honestly, no need. I for one don't expect gratitude for doing what is right and proper. I mean, when I get off the bus I'll nod a 'thanks' of acknowledgement to the bus driver, but I don't feel I'm in his debt.

You should not feel you are in the debt of anybody who has the simple human decency to acknowledge you as a fellow traveller, here for four score and ten, just doing your best.

mothers and fathers facebook (Iona with a smile) have resorted to the Daily Mail with the following article

of course its a red herring on the whole issue again has nothing to do with gay marriage cause even though this all occurred in the uk, I'll quote from the official ruling this key point

    http://www.bailii.org/ew/cases/EWFC/HCJ/2015/36.html

That "newspaper" is renowned for it's anti-gay stance, printed stories and staff opinion-pieces, so no new news there (pardon the pun), crocodile tears while raging that it can't reveal names as the court want's to protect the interests of the child.

I guess the logical progression will be that same sex marriage will taught in schools.

New school books depicting a man and a man getting married/ A woman and a woman getting married too, but if that's what the Irish people waant, and if thats what the Irish people vote for, then that's what will happen, irrespective of the 30 or 40% of Irish people who may vote NO.

I don't normally post in this type of thread( ie controversial )but I'm voting yes tomorrow for one simple reason
What right have I got, to deny 2 gay people the same right to walk down an isle and express their love and commitment to each other as 2 straight people can, currently?
    None.
I'll be voting yes and will be proud as punch when the nation ratifies this amendment tomorrow

It is great to see. I want my kids (when they grow up) to be able to go into their local without having to listen to some of the crap I hear from the local barstool warriors. And it they choose to become a barstool warrior, I hope that they are more enlightened than those currently inhabiting said stools.

I do believe it is improving generation by generation.

Yes, I expect my children to be taught what marriage in Ireland involves. I've no issue with that whatsoever. The images of a man being tortured to death around the place and the 2.5 hours of religious woo I could do without.

They'll be taught that it happens Sutch, they won't be forced to go off and do it.

Its a pointless referendum it changes nothing, its been created to sidetrack our attention and give us some huge sense of change or hope and rthe government to collect a few brownie points. It seems its become cool to be gay and uncool to be straight. If i cud be so bothered to even register to vote then id vote NO just for the shambolic way the yes crowd are behaving.

That is my main reason also: no negative impact to me or my family, simple. Why not? It also has the potential to give a lot of people that little bit extra security and happiness........ or maybe misery, at least they have the choice.

Some people would prefer their kids be "educated" in some kind of parallel universe where nasty things like gays etc don't exist.

I did decide to change my affiliation to gay when the referendum was announced. I shortly expect to find a nice woman to marry and tell my kids all the cool people are gay.

It's like if kids aren't told about sex and sexuality they'll all remain virgins until they marry someone of the opposite gender.

I'm happy to see you're not voting. :pac: It allows same sex couples to marry so it changes plenty.

Vote no. People under 35 shouldn't be allowed to marry.

Absolutely. Putting aside what I thought was a really nasty no campaign, there has been such a great feeling of solidarity and support during this campaign. I never expected to see so many straight people come out and actually fight and campaign for this to pass. What ever the outcome, I'll not forget that.
