Knocked 16 acres last night, tedded this morning will rake in at 3 and bale in the evening. Will be for dry cows more than likely as its old grass which if left to go into pit in 2 weeks would deteriorate so chanced it. same story re paddocks not cleaned out in the last round so hopefully we'll get a bit of heat soon to kick on growth and can skip those paddocks

Came in at 5 bales to the acre, nice day here all day so didn't mind baling late. First time ever tedding here may consider it for main cut of silage as well if I can get contractor to do it, today's crop would have been wet enough without it id say

    If it works its 100%

Remember the old days. Cows leaving parlour you miss one you then run out of the pit but think I better walk as she can out run me.

You slow not daring to look her on the eye while widening the arc and speeding slightly. As you increase to a slow jog so does she you get to eye level and decide to go for it.

You know you've one chance as she's almost out of the yard. You go for it and are making ground, thinking I have her. Once you reach eye level you know and she knows there can only be one winner.

She accelerates away but you being the hero give it one more go, with nothing left in the tank and all you can see is her freeze brand you know you're bet.

In one last effort to prove who's master you swing your right leg to land a kick not realising that the yard was scraped yesterday and it hasn't rained for weeks.

You miss and land on your ass in the one pile of scutter the scraper missed.

    Sound about right :)

LOL. I was with you every step of the way.

Thought cows had peaked, they had dropped from 33 down to 30.5 for a few days. Back up to 33 for the last 2 days.

Is it bruised on one claw or 2? Leave her in a paddock close to parlour and inject if needs be

Both. I presume red/purple on bottom of hoof is bruising?
There in a paddock beside yard for today at least I'll see what she's like tonight. She was horsing every cow in the place with kicks this morning

Arnica is really good for bringing down swelling and bruising - no idea how you'd get it in to her / onto the foot though. !
Would one of those cow slipper things stop her hurting it again Whilst it's still tender ?

Are u sure it's a hoof problem. If she was kicking out with the other leg as well and unsettled it could be a cholic of some sort. If lame find while they keep lifting the soRe leg during milking and that I would find it strange if they were jumping around the place. Is she lying down and then getting up again soon very often or anything like that?

first year is supposed to be free

Cevaxel the stuff I use, works out about 40e a bottle, 15ml per day for 3days. Can be got in 250ml bottles which works out cheaper I think, but don't quote me on that.

Can't seem to find it on the vets bill, must have been free. Eficure is about €60 per 100mls.

Hmmm why have I been charged closer to 90 previously! Eficure is stronger tho, and only 12ml per day needed.

Anyone read up about the Longford farmer with 180 cows on 36ha in the findo. Paddocks growing over 20tons. Sounds like NZ not Ireland ha!
