Yes, get rid of the phrase "the PC brigade" - it immediately indicates "Haven't read anything, don't want to think about anything, just want to lash out".

Obviously its touching nerves with a lot posters.

Yes if we ban enough words that are in otherwise common usage we could end up with our own special language.

Read the thread before posting, or at least search for any post making the exact post you are making.

For example I searched for "read" before posting this.

It's a stupid phrase used to shut down debate for absolutely no reason, it often gets used about something that isn't PC whatsoever. Why is it always "touching a nerve" when someone merely points out the flaws in something?

We all know what a highly PC person is - someone who gets offended over something totally innocuous and tiptoes around everything they say in relation to groups that aren't white (e.g. being afraid to use the term "black" to describe a black person). Fair enough when people use the term "PC brigade" about that.

But here, it regularly gets used about people who just aren't right-wing kneejerks.

It's more usually "outraged" or "offended" in fairness...

I'm not one bit surprised though at the names of the posters kicking up about it,and then give each other cyber pats on the back.

Yeah, that's exactly what I said.

Only new rule I would bring in is to cement the charter forever with no new rules.
Sure isnt it grand in here the way it is?!

Seriously: the idea about not being able to post in AH if a poster has few than 50 posts would be great for AH.

I suppose it just exports the problem though.

The internet is serious business. We need more rules and regulations to protect my fragile ego from opinions I disagree with.

If the AH mods are posting in a thread and they dislike their opinions being dissected as they may be incorrect or otherwise they need to either unfollow the thread or say they got it wrong. Throwing their toys out of the pram and issuing mod warnings or cards etc to win their argument is infantile.
Its pretty simple you cannot watch the parade and drive in it at the same time.

    Shut up, I'm never wrong.

But...exporting the problem...ah...that doesn't bother me so much.

Apply the 50 posts plus rule to all forums except mustard.

Not so much a rule but greater efforts should be made to stop a certain semi-literate leftist constantly ruining threads with relentless, repetitive, self-contradictory nonsense and personal attacks that are so poorly written they are painful to read.

    <snip>

Sadly, the obvious ideological bias in this site in general and in its moderation in particular means that trolls and idiots of the herd left are shown far greater tolerance than those of the right.

    So the gallop will continue.

Ban big words and limits posts to 58 words max.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,184 ✭✭✭✭Galwayguy35

The thread author should have the power to ban other users from his/her thread.

We should be allowed to attack the poster as well as the post.

    I would say 25 posts! :)

But why not have a single, sort of sand box thread for new posters only, in which they must make a minimum number of posts before they graduate to roam and rampage across the greater expanse of After Hours (or boards)?

I guess they would then just post garbage in there to get to the threshold quickly...so it just delays the inevitable?

Muppets are going to be Muppets regardless of their postcount IMO.

Bring back the "blast her with piss" comments. Some of them used to be gold but it got too popular and you had idiots using it for everything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,244 ✭✭✭✭bnt

I would impose a time delay. Write something, hit Post ... wait 1 minute ... server asks "do you really want to post that?". You'd have to hit another button labeled "Yes, I'm all that" before the post actually goes through. :p
