03 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 litre - Looking for Opinions

Photos are quite poor so it's hard to tell really.

Rear driver's side wheel arch has seen some damage and is poorly repaired. Front grill is mat black in colour whereas they are usually colour coded. Both of these could indicate that the car has been involved in a crash at some stage but again only going by the poor photos.

Those engines are known to burn oil, central locking can give trouble too and a clunky or nochy gearbox could mean it's on it's way out. So make sure a mechanic checks the car out before buying.

No photos of the inside, first sign it's a gob****e selling it.

As well as above there is no service history/timing belt etc. mentioned, dent on drivers door some more dents on drivers wheel arch, scuffs/scrapes on the front bumper, alloys look pitted - No inside pics and the seller has 0 feedback on adverts

Just general advice from someone who had to recently sell a 2003 golf.

As mentioned above the door locks have a history of seizing. I recently had to sell an otherwise perfect Golf as three of the door locks had died and the boot lock also broke. Cost of labour wasnt worth fixing so sold it to a garage.

Went to see the car and wasn't in great shape really, all your observations were pretty much spot on, front bumber had been damaged and needed replacing, few fairly visible dents and bumps on the bodywork, and few small interior bits missing.

Very nice seller tho, seemed honest in pointing out any defects/problems. seemed fine during test drive and comfortarble so could be good for buying and doing up but im going to leave it.

This one is next on my list to view, i've heard the 1.4's aren't great in terms of oil also and power but seems worth a viewing, what do you guys reckon?

1.6 would be livelier. The 1.4 tends to burn serious amounts of oil. Front reg plate is laminated, rear is pressed (which is probably the original one) so look out for any previous damage to the front.
