Correct its about redefining marriage but denying that its a direct link to the family unit (family is what people become when they marry) is plain ignorance.

A family is the principle institution for the socialization of children.

Yeah people should know what they are voting for.

I would have thought it was schools or playgrounds.

I wish, but it won't be anywhere near that wide a margin.

From my experience on the doors, this will be tight - and I have been canvassing in Dublin and surrounding areas which are more liberal than other places.

If people don't show up, we will lose. So please don't think this is done, and please get out and vote! Those who don't vote are handing victory to the over-represented minority.

Well said. Just interested in your canvassing experience? Where is the biggest resistance coming from?

By the way I really admire all you that have had the courage and conviction to get out and ask for those yeses.

How pathetically insecure heterosexuals must be about marriage. If the simple fact that my relationship would be seen as equal to theirs would damage a heterosexual marriage, how horrendously insecure and fragile their relationship must be.

If you only value marriage because other relationships are seen as inferior, you have no business marrying.

Please don't lump us all in with the bleeding knuckles brigade. I really hope all us Irish people vote yes on Friday.

I can't wait to experience my first gay Irish wedding :D

Halo have said by the way if you need a lift on the day ...they will give you one to your polling station for free. I think for OAPs that could be an incentive...that is a LEGIT offer by the way. SPREAD THE WORD!

    You have to book though.

I thought it was an amazing gesture. Spread the word especially to people who might find it hard to get out and about!

This referendum will be carried by more than 2 to 1.

I hope youre right but Im really starting to doubt this now.Latest polls show the yes vote loosing support...ok it might only be marginal but I have a bad feeling about this.

This is going to be close--really close. Was out last night with 2 school teachers in their late 20s / early 30s.People I would have said were 100% yes voters and to my complete surprise they are both voting no and they have said a lot of their colleagues feel the same way.

That's why I think this will be closer than anyone thinks.

We always knew that. I don't know to what degree though.

We need to mobilize the yes vote.

It's there ...it's just getting OUT THERE.

I am trying to tell everyone I know about the Hailo offer.

There should be some sort of bus campaign.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Trouble with these busybody types is they have so little going on in their own lives, that they feel the need to meddle in others lives even though it has zero bearing on them directly. Unfortunately the nature of the Irish constitution gives them a mandate to do this. Hence we have to tolerate this ridiculous debate about treating everyone equally. Which flies in the face of the whole constitution to start with.

It's Heterosexual privilege. They will most likely become reactionaries simply trying to go back to what was an unfair status quo.

I think it's because they fear that married gay couples will have the right to procreate via donor egg/sperm.The 'marriage' title probably only bothers a minority of NO voters.

Thanks. While the experience has been generally positive, the fact that I am effectively forced to go door to door to ask for equal recognition of my relationship does rankle at times.

People have broadly been positive, but the concern is that people may not actually get out on the day. That is crucial. Unless we get turn out, we will lose.

Surprisingly, the biggest resistance has come from the more established, middle class areas. I would have thought the more wealthy and educated areas would be more liberal, but it hasn't been that way.

the working class areas of dublin have all been amazingly supportive. Perhaps its the greater community spirit, and understanding of the needs of the marginalised.

Ah... but then we'll get the sympathy vote and be declared winners for life. Hoards of gay Eurovisionists will descend on us en mass every May and take selfies at grottoes and push up the price of a pint to €25.

    :D

No, its not. Because that's no a genuine concern. That myth has been debunked by the Referendum Commission and others.

Anybody repeating it at this stage is engaging in intentional deception and mistruths.

Intelligent people don't like being told what to do. The dumb & paupers are far more likely to be persuaded.

And Johnny Logan will be played over the speakers in Knock just to rub it in. I shall have to leave.

Heard that too. But I guess bear in mind these so called middle class would have been the biggest cheerleaders of the RCC down though the years. It was often the poor the RCC and establishment would have treated like dirt. So maybe its not so surprising.
Much more of a live and let life approach going on. Know that from gay friends, ones from Wealthy backgrounds often it has been harder as the whole "what would the neighbours think" hang up was still going on.
Well done and keep up the good work 😄

We need all the help we can get.

There's still canvassers needed - but at the very least talk to friends and family about this.

The middle-aged middle classes are often the ones who feel most threatened by change in society, and find greatest comfort in exclusiveness. Their children are less likely to be that way though.
