Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hey guys so carrying on from previous threads, we touched on starting a movie club where we will watch Christmas movies on the run up to Christmas.

Once a week, we have 33 weeks to go to Christmas so let's aim for a list of 30 films if we can? We will start by nominating films to view and a new thread will be opened each week to discuss our thoughts and reviews of the movie.

I just ask can you please keep your maximum number of nominations to three and keep checking the list below to make sure we're not duplicating requests.

Maybe once a month on the 25th perhaps, we can do a live thread? Pick a time and we all agree to watch it at the same time. Should be a bit of fun.

I'll kick off the list with my favorite Christmas Movies,

    1 The Grinch 25/05/2015
    2 trading places 01/06/2015
    3 The snowman 08/06/2015

    8 Love Actually 13/07/2015
    9 Arthur Christmas 20/07/2015
    10 A Christmas Story 27/07/2015

    12 Jack Frost 24/08/2015
    13 The Santa clause 2 31/08/2015

What's a Christmas Story? First movie on the list I haven't heard of?

Only the greatest, most beloved christmas movie ever.

Unfortunately they made a sequel, with none of the original cast, or charm, or humour, or likability...

However, a legitimate contender for most beloved christmas movie ever is "Christmas Vacation"

I'm really excited for this, when is it starting? Or are we waiting until we have 30 films lined up?

As it stands there is 31 weeks to christmas. As we have 27 films on the list we might kick off in two weeks time. I'll set up a new thread for the first movie a little closer to the time.

It wasn't on the list but it is now :D

If we're adding non-Christmassy films, like The Wizard of Oz (it's been a while since I've seen it, but I don't remember it being a Christmas film) then surely Willy Wonka or Trading Places should make the cut? Trading places is at least set during Christmas and New Year! :pac:

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 24,984 Mod ✭✭✭✭Loughc

I love trading places so that is absolutely making the list :P

That's it we are at 30 films. I will set up the first thread, as there is a mix of Traditional Christmas movies and movies we associate with Christmas, I am going to randomise the list. So the list on page one will not be the order we'll watch them.

I'll post up the new movie order and the first thread shortly.

I am so excited for this :) Thanks Loughc

It's set around Winter/Christmas time in New York and it's a regular Christmas TV listing favourite it's always shown at Christmas time usually on BBC.

Trading Places is SO GOOD. One of my all time favourites. That scene that Zaph posted the picture from is hilarious.

Edit: Loughc; Santa Claus the Movie isn't on the list!

(or is it? Is number 25, 'Santa Claus' the same film as 'Santa Claus the Movie?' If so, I stand corrected!)
