Believe that's a V6 but open to correction. Bag that for €1k and for circa €3k you could have a lovely lovely motor.

    You're 100% right, it's a ford derived V6 - I meant it's not as V8 as the other one (as in not a V8 :p)

The v6 is a lovely engine and surprisingly economical for what it is - a lot of parts are interchangeable with the Mondeo so some bits are cheap.

Basically the same engine as the St220 but more powerful.

Should pass no bother is the most annoying thing to put in an ad, just say no nct and price reflects it or something.

I dunno, you'd spend a nice bit on the bodywork and getting ABS sorted.

Unless you got it for absolute buttons I can't see what an auld Legacy with 200k miles is good for.

Even cleaned up and with a fresh test on it it's worth precisely feck all.

Like you say, it depends on what you get it for. But if the rest of the car is tidy and mechanically sound, then I think a 4wd Subaru estate is a fine car, especially in winter. Bonus if you have to fetch a sick calf from the lower haggard to the vets... :)

Hi there. Anyone know of a mechanic who would be interested in buying a fixer upper?

I have a 99 Polo (160k mileage) just failed the NCT on exhaust emissions and rust. Requires a small bit of TLC and looking for someone who might be interested.

Scrap it or sell for parts on donedeal.ie

    As a fixer-upper, it's worthless.

Bring it to a registered scrapper for approx €100 scrap

If it doesn't take up much space, could leave it for a month or two taking off bits and selling them before scrapping it.

Needs a clutch, water pump (so a new timing belt set) and springs.
NCT until the end of August, has a nice spec and seems clean enough.
I'd say another 1k would get it perfect, maybe less if you got second hand springs.

Or go for an even higher spec but have no NCT.
Seller says it just needs the controller for the sunroof.

Or go for a different car. :P

I wouldn't be depending on that statement! :) But if engine running ok, its worth a tidy up for nct. But no more than 800euro

Forget about the sunroof, consider it a bonus if its not leaking.

I wouldnt be in a hurry to take on the blue one - its probably already overheated, so even with a new pump and belt it could cause grief down the road.

Possibly but would be quite easy to test if the car is overheating.
But I would take punt on the more expensive one and fling it through the NCT and see what it fails on.

If the wp is gone, then it is overheating!

Question is, how many times, and how badly in the past.

Yep, if the seller says it needs a waterpump thats not good news. Your opening up a whole can of worms on what damage may have resulted as a knock on result of failed water pump.

I wonder why it needs new front springs...bit odd...presumably the seller may have meant shocks...

clean looking and if the only work is what is listed, then could be a nice find -

Time to move on my little punto - my first foray into the world of Fixeruppers. Although in decent shape, it didnt have an NCT when I bought it for €450.

    42163140.jpeg

Since I had it I've fixed the airbag issue ( loose connection) and fixed the heater blower motor which now works perfectly at all speeds. Other things sorted:

Full new bosel exhaust ( €36 for main flexi pipe and €60 for the back box)
    New Battery ( €80 )
    Headlight bulb ( €4) and re-aim ( free!)
Full service ( plugs, oils and filters - €60 )
flushed and replaced coolant with Prestone (€12)
    2 new front tyres ( €90 fitted)

Passed 2 NCT's (Nov and March) with everything safely within limits - emissions are perfect. Its done 4000 miles since October, mostly town driving but twice a month does the round trip to cork airport. Still gets 60mpg on the long runs, and manages a respectable 40mpg around town. It used precisely 200ml of oil in 4000 miles!! :)

    €450 + €342 (maintenance) + ~€400 (tax + insurance 7 months) + fuel ~€600 = €1792
    I hope to get €850 for it, so total cost = €1792 - €850 = €942

About 14 cents per km :) I might just keep it...
