    I doubt it

manufacturing like that won't see much growth in Ireland

Why would they build a car for the European market on an Island......

Can't see it making any sense tbh: expensive workforce, expensive power, expensive transport to continent...

Read the article. Apple may run the accounting from Ireland but you can guarantee the cars will be made in a low-cost economy (China, Eastern Europe etc.)

Develope in Ireland maybe, I'd imagine they'd be a long way from going into production

I heard that if you put your hand on the wrong part of the steering wheel the engine cuts out.

It's supposed to be the first ever vehicle that will run entirely on self-satisfied emissions.

I heard if you don't sync it with iTunes regularly the wheels explode at 88 kmh.

Why the hell would they not build it in China like everything else.

And "Designed by Apple in Cork, Assembled in China" doesn't have quiet the appeal.

I am not allowed discuss …

why not, the UK has lots of car factories

....and don't forget Ford had a tractor factory in cork not so long ago

but the UK has its own large market, we don't

for the same reasons Cork no longer has a tractor factory, Apple won't be be building cars here

So we ship all the components in , make the car , export the car

Even calling it an Icar will not cover that expense

Also we built (stole) cars in cork not tractors

    Depends on the tax breaks.
Nissan I think build in the UK and use those huge transporter ships.
    Might be viable.

    they did build tractors there
in 1929 production of Ford tractors began at the Cork factory again and the plant became, for a time, the only Ford plant in the world making tractors.

I assume they'll build any future products where they've built all their products to date, the dilapidated labour camps of some rural Chinese backwater.

Tax breaks in Ireland may be good, but you just can't get away with working people till they literally kill themselves over here.

Japan is quite islandy, someone should tell them to stay out of the automotive game.

In fact nothing should be made on islands, it's a poor idea.

You're steering it the wrong way

I don't see Chinese manufactured cars taking over the world.

Right, so what are the potential 2000 new jobs in Apple Cork going to be involved in then?

No. That's impossible because they have to be shipped from China instead.

The contradictory opinions on this thread are to be expected. I suppose. It's the Internet.

That said, while cars with high margins could easily be manufactured in cork I suspect they are just doing their typical sales and after sales there.

No no. They will be made in China and downloaded to Germany via the Internet.

Hope you're not suggesting an Apple product won't have a high margin?
