Again though those people only represent a fraction of the people affected by this vote. You're basically saying "Because that small percentage acted in that manner, I'm going to tarnish all of them." For example, there's posters pulled down, yes, but most Yes voters are against that and have cried against that. Don't let a few militants tarnish everyone.

Don't vote on how the tactics are employed by a small minority but on the issue itself. You seem to believe in the idea of gay marriage and so, putting aside the loud voices of a few who do *NOT* represent everyone, so surely you should vote yes for all the other unheard voices.

The thing is your right and i agree with the taught of what your saying normally. Its just in this case ive become so fed up with every day seeing so many examples of what i dont like about all of this that i no longer feel i want to be a part of voting on this subject. Its not me taking any one side i just feel i dont feel right being a part of it.

As a gay person I want this Referendum to pass so I can be equal in my own country but as was pointed out above, we are a minority and must rely on the understanding and good will of others for that, so for those who are not directly affected by this but will vote YES, Thank You.

It's funny how No voters say that a civil partnership should be "good enough".
It is clearly lesser to marriage.

If there was a law that the size of the No posters should be less than the size of Yes posters we'd soon hear about how unequal it is.

Because from what ive seen and heard of the yes campaign the last few weeks/months and how they have went about everything im not fully behind them.

So really at the end of the day i support the idea of gay marriage but i dont like how its been mainly represented in this situation so im not voting and in fairness id be very VERY surprised if this goes any other way then a yes win.

    Jesus, how pathetic.

Can I ask why you don't feel the same regarding the no side's tactics? Specifically their blatant lying, misrepresenting of facts and published papers and attempts to portray the referendum as being about something its not and affecting things that will actually not be affected at all. Surely this behavior is equally deplorable?

So you're pretending that something which is certain is not proven on the balance of probabilities?

    Remedial English for you.
I'm pointing out that the concept of balance of probabilities is farcical when applied to events that are certain, yes.

I'm pointing out that the article above assumes the presence of a husband in every marriage, yes.

I take it if you are engaging in insult, you've conceded the point.

I dont no who to reply to at this stage :pac: so ill just say this.

At the end of the day i have nothing against gay people wanting to get married and that is why i was going to vote yes and ultimately why i know it will be the right thing when it passes.

I just dont agree with how ive seen so many go about promoting it though and im not the only one who thinks this ive seen plenty of people say the same.

Im not against what yes stands for behind all the crap being dealt by others but at the same time its just who i am that if im not 100 percent happy with something id rather not leave my mark on it by making a choice on it.

Ive actually had this conversation with more then one gay person and i was able to talk to them rationally about it without being told i was wrong i just dont see that happening enough when it comes to the campaigning of this referendum though.

Its been mainly forced on people and i dont agree with that. If your anyway on the fence for whatever reason right or wrong your been pushed to one side.

I'd be willing to bet the entirety of the above is lies.

It's very easy to step away from the problem. It's more courageous to be part of the solution. If you really believe that a yes vote is the right vote then just do it. Be able to turn around to your kids and grand kids in future and tell them that you helped make things happen. Be able to look at a happily married gay couple in future and be proud that you helped afford them that happiness.

And I repeat, it's incoherent to rely on a balance of probabilities argument in a situation of certainty. It's incoherent to have a wording that assumes a woman is married to a husband, and assumes that husband to be the default father. Even, as you say, when he doesn't exist.

Bear in mind, in the background, the Amendment wording says "no distinction" based on gender. And you can't just replace the gendered words in that paragraph with "spouse".

The point is obvious. Please don't avoid it again, and then pretend you've addressed it.

What difficulties do you see this bit of legislation causing, that would lead you to vote no?

I hope it passes and i hope you personally get what you want from the outcome ive nothing against you or any other people directly involved in the big picture.

Like ive said though i no longer feel i want to be part of voting on the subject im not trying to be against anyone i dont agree with the no side but i dont agree with society either in the majority of cases.

I dont want this to be me voting because i was told to vote if i do it i want it to be because i was one hundred percent behind every aspect of it.

Do you consider this fair though? That you're punishing (or at least not supporting) people not involved in this campaign, people who are too young to vote, people who haven't even been born yet, because you don't feel comfortable with the actions of people you have happened to see over a two month period? The referendum isn't asking you to pick a certain side to support, it's asking you to decide if you want to equalise rights for a minority for the rest of the life of the constitution, long after everyone involved in the campaign is dead.

I'm pointing out that the concept of balance of probabilities is farcical when applied to events that are certain, yes.

The standard for proof on the balance of the probabilities is looser than beyond reasonable doubt, which is looser than absolute certainty.

So something which is certain is proven beyond reasonable doubt and also proven on the balance of the probablilities.

I just dont agree with how ive seen so many go about promoting it though and im not the only one who thinks this ive seen plenty of people say the same.
But again those "many" aren't actually many at all - they're maybe a couple of hundred out of the thousands affected. Take a moment to understand their frustration - and really, it can be quite upsetting - and then take a look too at those who campaign quietly or who can't campaign.
Its been mainly forced on people and i dont agree with that. If your anyway on the fence for whatever reason right or wrong your been pushed to one side.
The vote's been forced on people? Or do you mean people are forcing you to choose a side?

I dont think anything about the no side really. It never stood a chance from day one and its mainly voiced by ****ing fools.

Do you see why im not voting at all here?

I dont want this to be me voting because i was told to vote if i do it i want it to be because i was one hundred percent behind every aspect of it.

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense though. Why would you need to be behind every aspect of it? Why would you need to be behind comments made by, say, people like me - which might not be to your taste?

The only thing you need to be behind in order to vote yes is adding the following line to the constitution (your constitution):
Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex.

Anything else seems like a cop out, for someone who says they'd like to see it pass.

    Yes i was.....

No wait i hate gay people right ? :pac:

Never said that. You obviously were never going to bother voting in this referendum.

I've seen a fair few people say 'I was going to vote yes but I'm not going to bother now because of all this carry on'. No, they weren't. You're always going to have the curmudgeonly 'not going to follow the herd' anti-voter who'll justify why they're above all this 'voting for people's rights' nonsense with some non-specifiable reasons which usually involves people's 'carry on'. Don't ask me why they do it but it seems quite popular these days.

I suggest you stop tiptoeing around these idiots and tell them exactly what you think. Its what i would call an honest debate. If one side of the debate is utter bollox then it should be treated as such.

    No. It doesn't achieve anything

You're either a liar or a complete fool whose vote is wasted on them. Which is it?

    I'd agree.

But, apparently, if they differ, they're not equal.

    So SireOfSeth says.

I wasn't talking about the sexes, and you know it!

I don't see why you're not voting. If you're in favour of a yes, and you consider the no side to be fools then show them they're fools. Vote against them!

You think a Yes vote is a foregone conclusion, and it is safe to dick about with your vote for reasons unconnected to the actual question being put to you.

If the result is a Yes, no harm done, but if it is a No, I hope you are very ashamed, and vote when this is put to you again in five years time.
