Usually liable for the full price of the car in the event of an accident or if it's robbed with some of the cheaper car deals. Thrifty are definitely a good example of this

That's firefly, they'll get you with loads of extras ,

Alamo ate the best, their a sister of enterprise but cheaper even though they use the same office and cars. no hidden extras, just being the car back full.
Also only required 150 deposit firefly look for a couple of hundred

But you still need to leave a large deposit. Which can be annoying

The important thing is that you're covered - it's only a deposit, & if you have an accident, ultimately you'll recover it (so no cost of the car).

But if you use a credit card, they "only" freeze the money (ie you have to have at least that amount of a limit remaining on the card. I buy annual excess insurance for about 40GBP, as I'm renting cars pretty 2-3 times a month. Spain alright is a pain in the h0le as you general never get a full fuel refund and they charge u an administration fee, but it's never been more than 20/30 euro for the duration of the rental.

I use www.arguscarhire.com for renting in Ireland and either the same or ebookers.ie for renting abroad. They general charge for a by the 24hour period, eg if you're picking up at 11 and dropping off at 12 you'll pay an extra day. Also some providers charge extra for early drop offs so I just put in a later time (it'll be a key box 99% of the time so they're none the wiser)

That can be a right pain especially if you booked flights and accommodation on you card , for lots of people it doesn't leave much to spend

For anyone going to Canaries, I use autoreisen and they are great. Cars can be 3-6 years old, fairly battered but good value and all inclusive. free baby seats etc too.

If one goes close to their Credit Card limit they're in for a pretty big pain when the bill arrives :D

Bigtime - especially when you pick it up in the dark, and then they produce a flashlight when they're checking it on return!!!

My wife can do serious damage with a credit card. Sometimes it's cheaper to keep it maxed out. Pay it off and she'll start all over again

Dont touch the mandatory fuel ones. I got done in Malaga before. They're scumbags these companies.
Always stick to the major companies like hertz, enterprise and thrifty.

    Ferrari is owned by Fiat.
Ownership means nothing when the brands are different

E351,58 for 15 days in Alicante in July in a Citroen Berlingo / Kangoo A/C or similar. They booked the car with Record Car Rentals. I've used them before, always a new car and they are based in the airport.

This E351 includes insurance. I never take the extra insurance they try and sell and have to leave a large E800 (I think) deposit with my Credit Card,

Bring own satnav as already stated.

I've used DoYouSpain a lot but they are brokers and you can end up with a car hire company that leave a lot to be desired. I hired with them in Jan and got a car from Dickmanns who are a company I would not trust nor do business with again. They demand a huge deposit (but if you pay them a fee they will reduce it, no thanks). I googled them when I got uneasy about their attitude and found out that a huge number of others who had got a car from them were very dissatisfied. I had to get the guy out to check the car on its return and he reluctantly signed the form to say there was no damage but I felt (based on the online tales of others) that I was going to be gouged even though there was no damage. I had to wait over 4 weeks for the refund of my 800 euros deposit and during all that time I was very concerned that they would trump up a spurious charge. Luckily I got away but will never do business with DoYouSpain if they send me to Dickmanns again.

Did you read their T&C, unless you contact them and cancel, they will charge every year the same amount you authorised them to.

Went with another company for my excess, plus i went through rentalcars.com, got a Corsa for 8 days for 82 euro, tank full to full. Plus I collected it at Airport Terminal, some are 5/10 mins away on a bus they provide plus only thing I found was, they had their dents indicated on the docket, I went out and spotted loads more, I got these put onto another docket before I drove away. Always check car before you drive off....
