Amsterdam Hostel/Hotel Suggestions

    Hi all,

    Going interrailing this summer with friends and have been looking around online for ages trying to suss out the best place to stay when we get to Ams. It's looking like the most expensive city on our trip even so far as each night stay in any reasonable looking hostel.

    Just wondering if there's any tips anyone can offer on places they've stayed and if they're a little out of the city (major tourist attractions etc) then what would be the tram line from it into town etc..distance? price for a taxi home after a night out etc?

    I stayed in grand downtown hotel earlier this year; it was about €200 for 3 nights for a double room (don't know if that is over your budget). REALLY REALLY nice room :) It was outside from the main part of the city, a 15/20 min walk from the centre or a tram would bring you there in less than 10. It is close to Vondelpark which is really nice and not too far from Van Gogh etc. Think trams run til 11 or 12 but we got a taxi one night that was only €12 (basically no traffic).
