    Hi there

My apt has a UPC cable broadband connection , with a Scientific Atlanta cable router connected to a nergear wireless access point .

I was wondering if I could replace the two with a netgear wireless cable modem router or do I have to use the Scientific Atlanta router provided , as I read elsewhere on boards.ie

    Thanks

You have to use the Scientific Atlanta. UPC won't provision a cable modem that you provide yourself, even if it is one of their own.

From what you describe, you have an old bundle of the SA EPC2203 cable modem and Netgear router. You could get a newer all-in-one router from UPC, such as the Technicolor or Ubee (and this would probably give you faster speeds too) but you'd need to sign a new contract and the new devices have their own problems too.

Thanks for that! That's kind of crappy isn't it? The reason I wanted to do it was because I noticed from time to time that the wireless devices in the house would lose internet connectivity even though the wifi connection was up and running, so I blamed the SA router, correctly or incorrectly.

If you can get a Cisco or Thompson from UPC they can be bridged to your current netgear(or a newer faster one), and will raise the packages you can chose up to 240Mb.
