Would that not be the opposite of what we're voting on?

AFAIK, were the first country voting to remove a constitutional ban on SSM. Thats not what Croatia did

    you being smart there
it's same thing just the wording was different so the interest parties voted the opposite way than they would here.

    No.

It's voting to have discrimination against homosexuals placed in their Constitution - or super duper illegal on the SSM.

We are voting to make SSM super duper legal.

    Complete opposites.

Fair play Croatia. Not just the best football jerseys now.

Yeah, Croatia continues it's dismal human rights record.
    GO THEM!

I'll vote yes on the day. Same sex marriage won't impact on me personally. But I am not in the position to deny any person marriage.

I don't really think too much about the various anti campaigns - I just turn off. The church saying they may not complete the civil part

of a ceremony is a bit cracked. The church in the past had a monopoly on marriage and weddings but this is changing .......

To people who will vote no, that's your choice too.

I'm assuming (I don't know) that SSM wasn't legal in Croatia to begin with - they were just voting to make sure it could never be legislated for in the future.

We're voting to remove a constitutional ban on SSM which has been in place since the constitution was written in 1937, when in fairness, the thought of two men/women getting married would have been absurd.

It's absolutely not the same thing

Yes, how dare exercise their democratic rights. I guess they saw through the "equality" argument.

Forward thinking progressive society, Croatia, but the opposite? Am I getting this?

Yeah. Nothing says democratic rights like enshrining discrimination.
    GO CROATIA!

Bicker over whether a referendum to have it placed in a Constitution that SSM is illegal and a referendum to have SSM made legal are the same thing.

I say they are the opposite.

Just cus its a democratic vote doesn't mean its the right decision or do you disagree that democracy can never be wrong?

Thank you for the invitation. Its greatly appreciated.

For the moment I'll pass, but I will always support the side of freedom over state oppression.

Including the rights of my fellow countrymen and women. We are stronger together. And I like that fact. I will always fight for what is RIGHT.

It's still better then a dictatorship and it's the right decision for the people that voted which where the majority.

White Americans were the majority in the Southern United States therefore, by your logic, the Jim Crow Laws were just.

And they got removed when the majority thought they should democracy is the best option, I would take it over a dictatorship any day more evil has been done in dictatorships then any democracy.

I'm sitting here watching the debate on prime time and the no side are just completely diluting the whole debate with non sense that were not actually going to be voting on. It's pure car crash TV. They're completely deluded.

He said democracy was bad cause hitler, stalin, pol pot, mao all dictatorships all worse then hitler.

Democracy is the fairist system we have, and is the one that will decide this referendum.

Eh, not really. It was a vote to put into the constitution a section to prevent same sex marriage being made legal by any Govt there. In the same way that the Govt here is allowing the people decide by referendum on what legislation won't get into law here (the unconstitutional act ploy) that's what the Croatian Gov't did there. If my memory is right, the vote was won due to a low turn-out by both sides, so the NO side won due to majority vote. The church there also backed the NO vote.

I was referring to the post inferring democracy always resulted in the right decision and giving examples where it resulted in horrible situations, it is deffinitely the fairest system but is in no way perfect

But it's the best we have and I am glad the one that will decide this referendum. Also it could be said hitler was the right choice for 1930's germany.

No. He said Hitler was democratically elected. Which is true.

Democracy might be the best we have but it is not perfect and can easily become the tyranny of the majority mob unless protections for minorities are firmly in place.

Hightlighted part is correct, but the change to the law is due to the referendum in the expectation of a yes vote.

No - its because it's the right thing to do independent of the referendum result.

If the 2015 legislation was contingent on a yes vote, why would it reference CP - which will be done away with.
