Apparently it was a medical emergency. Garda called also, someone smoking in the toilets.

What's the story with tracking of flights out of Waterford on FR24? - over a week operating and destination not yet showing. Also the accuracy of flightpath is way off - see today's in the Sea - airport is close to coast but not that close.

Under what authority can he be fined?

Irish registered aircraft landing in Ireland, I'm all most certain Irish law applies.

The F50 probably doesn't have a ADB-S radar and Waterford doesnt have sufficient data to track it. Therefore it doesnt show until it reaches a high altitude.

As for not showing the route, that may or may not show soon. Its my biggest pet peeve with FR24 is that they mess up new (and existing) routes all the time.

So smoking is a fixed penalty?

Quite possibly. It depends on what ever the relevant legislation allows for. If it was a work place/business premises, which I think it is. it could be a up to a 1000e Or something but you'd have to look it up. I'm only guessing

17:40 heading NW over NI is GLF6 N886WT of Qualcomm, designers of the innards of around half of the World's smartphones. Even Apple uses their chips.

Tokyo Convention, as enacted in the Air Navigation and Transport Act, 1973.

    There's probably others...

Without being an expert, if the offence committed is an offence within the State that is capable of being discharged by a fixed penalty, I guess they can if the person admits the offence...?

*I have no idea what the person is charged with so I can't be any more help than that...!*

The problem I has is how can he be fined without going to court? I would have expected him to have been arrested and brought to court or else released without charge. I don't think the Gardaí have the power to levy a fine in this manner.

They would do as he was on and Irish reg'd plane on Irish soil....so the smoking ban would apply. A passanger aircraft is a business premiese and work place. Under Irish law there are fines set out for a breach of this. If he did it in a pub he'd be fined summarily, From what I understand of how it works. Aircraft, pub = still a business premises i think

Wrong aircraft if his Twitter handle ("barry340") and bio ("Airbus captain") are correct (and he appears to be in Vietnam!)

It did sound like him - chirpy 2fm type voice. I'm not on the Twitter machine. The pilot just sounded like him.

However, I do stand corrected. :)

Yes, but you still need judicial process. You still need to go to court.

Not to drag the thread off....mods delete this is u want etc.

You don't have to at all. It's a suminary offence. Same as speeding. You can contest it if u wish but if your caught red handed it's pretty much a strict offence. By my understanding anyways. In all honesty if your curious look up the act regulating the smoking band...it probably sets out how the offences/fines can be processed. If that's what covers this issue

landed in Rennes, must be a really urgent emergency considering the rate of descent and the fact that they were probably only about 20-30 mins from their destination anyway.
