Just bought a new silvercrest radio to replace my old sony radio. The sony radio turned off fully when i pulled the key out of the ignition but with the silvercrest radio only the text/writing goes away, the lights around the buttons stay on. Is there any way to get them to turn off completely? The sony radio needed a set of adapters but the silvercrest doesnt if it helps... VW Golf mk4

Maybe swap around the red/yellow wires.

how to take them out ?? strip the wire and rewire them or it is possible to take them out of the black box thing they're in and swap them?

You might need to run an ignition wire from the fuse box, sometimes there is no ignition feed wired into the radio on VW's. If you're not sure about how to do this take it to an auto-electrician or car radio installer.

Are you using the original ISO lead to power your radio. The Vw radios needed 3 x 12v supplies to power it on. Most likely one of these supplies is now powering the illumination through the Orange lead in the radio loom.
