Nonsense.... they got more support than they deserved. There's two Irish lads jailed in Peru the very same year for the same offense and they barely even got a mention here. Those men you mentioned use PEOPLE to smuggle drugs, ie both sexes. I can't speak for the other women involved as I don't know their stories, but these two girls were not victims of anything but their own greed. These First World girls don't have the excuse of hardship to get involved with unsavory gangs.

    Sexism....in our media? I don't believe it!

She was young and silly, I'm sure she's matured. She didn't kill anyone let's not forget. She hasn't cost anyone billions of euro. She's not going to come round to all your houses and give your kids coke. It'll all be ok, I promise.

if the coke she was carrying had hit the market, there would have been numerous lives ruined and people killed. Alot of drug dealers start with young kids so how do you know she woudn't have progressed to that.

noway12345 has obviously some connection with the family or individual from reading her posts which seems to be blinding the seriousness of the crime committed for him/her. You cant say someone was immature at the time the crime was committed or didn't know the repercussions. Absolute crap, regardless if the convicted is sorry etc, she should have to serve her full time.

all the conservative, hang-em-high, rough justice advocates posting here are likely resentful that they never took a chance in life or even had some real fun ever.

Any fun i ever had didn't consist of trying to smuggle a **** load of drugs or ending up in prison. If that's your idea of fun then off ya go and enjoy your extended "holiday"

Are you 12? I was probably the epitome of a party girl, I wasn't a f*cking idiot though. I definitely wasn't boring because I didn't smuggle drugs, lie and manipulate people and end up in prison

Don't try and glamorise what they did, it's not exciting or fun, they were stupid, nobody envies them. It really is that simple.

Perhaps reflecting upon the historical connections between the "Ould sod" and the place they now inhabit....mind you that O Higgins was no bleedin' heart liberal either though ?

These ladies really do need a "Max Clifford" (or equivalent) to get their situation back in the eye of the ever fickle Media...

I'd suggest their people do lunch with the Halawa's people to see how Amal Clooney's diary is fixed...?

Seems that these two young women have largely been forgotten about. Just as well they didn't get arrested in Indonesia.

Update: Apparently, one of the two has been released under new legislation:
McCollum is being freed under new legislation which allows for the release of foreign inmates who have served a third of their sentence.
