Why is everybody picking on the poor naive drug smuggler? Its not her fault she needed money to live the party lifestyle, its societies fault and you all should be ashamed for driving her to it!

she knew she was breaking the law. she knew the consequences of being caught. it really is very simple.

How does that make the crime any less? Her crime wasn't getting caught, whether she thought it would happen or not. Her crime was smuggling drugs, which I am pretty sure she was aware she was doing. The point above is irrelevant.

I hear prisons in Peru are terribly overcrowded. I know it isn't much but I try to help with the situation a little by not smuggling drugs into Peru.

She thought it was easy, she believed what she was told because she was young, silly and naive.

    Words cannot explain.

Scenario - you're offered 20grand to walk down the street and shoot someone in the head.....easy money....yes....do you know what you're doing is wrong......yes...is age a factor.....not unless you're under the age of FIVE...do you understand the repercussions......YES

Get your head out of the SAND.

She KNEW exactly what she was doing just like 99.99999% of humans on this planet know right from wrong, the only difference is people can act out without emotions.

She was completely blinded by greed and an easy life, that is not the same as being naive, at this point in time i fully believe you're on the wind up.

This must be very annoying for anyone reading. I'll leave this thread to the people who have sick fantasies about her getting raped and other stuff in Peruvian prison. Nasty people who take pleasure in thinking a young girl is suffering. Clearly there's something wrong with these people.
The news is good for Michaella though. That's what this thread was meant to be about. It's highly likely that she'll be home in Ireland to serve out her sentence soon. Her family and friends will get to see her regularly and she can plan her future which hopefully will be bright.
Others will just have to get on with their lives and suck it up I'm afraid.

defendant: I didnt know this was a gun and I didn't know that bit fired the bullets

I did it 3 times last year, turns out I didn't know what I was doing. This guy just walked up to me....said hey here is 5grand can I put these white bags in your suitcase and conceal them...I just starred blankly into space took the money and got on the plane, I erased all memorys of said encounter and got off the plane with a smile on my face thinking "YEHHHHHH peru"

Still, better check her bags when she lands here just in case.

Once a drug smuggler always a drug smuggler.

And as per usual you have zero evidence to back up your sick claims.

No-one has fantasies about her getting raped, the question was asked by the OP "where are they now" as this is after hours responses are to be taken with a pinch of salt (as we've taken yours) and people responded saying she was being raped, which while there is no evidence to suggest she is there is also no evidence to suggest she hasn't been either.

No, not annoying, quite satisfying that the peruvian authorities caught her.

The only person mentioning "sick fantasies" is you. Get help.

Ps. Enjoy the reunion when she gets back.

Do convicted drug smugglers have bright futures?

You call the people on here nasty, but seem to sympathize with a deadbeat who was jobless and took the risk of smuggling drugs into a country where they would in all likely contribute to gang related crimes, killings and strengthening feuds, not to mention destroying plenty of family's in the mean time.

But, hey that's fine. She was only young and after a quick few pound.

    Your hypocrisy know no bounds.

So she knew it was illegal (no matter how nieve you are you know that smuggling drugs is illegal) but cause she was told she wouldn't get caught she shouldnt do her full time.

Seriously lad, listen to yourself, you can't truly believe this

Fair play noway12345, in three threads, about: a parking fine, the middle-class nature of boards, and now this one, you have had multiple posters poised at their keyboards, just waiting for another post to reply to. Hundreds of responses in mere minutes.

    I salute you.

Can you explain how you know for sure that she wasn't aware of the seriousness of her actions in smuggling the drugs? Whether she is or isn't naive bears no significance on the situation ether, she got caught in possession and knew or ought to known the consequences. Ignorance of the law is no excuse and will not be accepted in any jurisdiction.

Also out of curiosity, what gives you the the know how in deciding that she has been punished sufficiently? Perhaps you are a judge in the Peruvian Supreme Court?

I think that Michaela and the Scottish girl knew what they were doing when they decided to smuggle that coke out of Peru. Given the nature of the crime and the quantity seized, IMO they got relatively lenient sentences. And it looks like Michaela will be transferred home to serve out the rest of her sentence. The Peru Two were young gullible naive girls who wanted the Ibiza party lifestyle.

Imagine if it was Indonesia they were caught in? At least 20 years in prison and maybe even a firing squad execution.

It's sad they don't get more support. There was a documentary about the prison they where sent to and it is full of women used by men to smuggle drugs. There were a number of women who'd been used by the same guy.

Nonsense.... they got more support than they deserved.

There's two Irish lads jailed in Peru the very same year for the same offense and they barely even got a mention here. Those men you mentioned use PEOPLE to smuggle drugs, ie both sexes. I can't speak for the other women involved as I don't know their stories, but these two girls were not victims of anything but their own greed.

These First World girls don't have the excuse of hardship to get involved with unsavory gangs.

There also seemed a concerted effort on her or her supporters' part to throw the Scottish lass under a bus.
The docusoap shown in the months after her capture, blatantly attempting to shift the blame onto her co-accused, was in some ways the most unedifying part of this whole debacle.

Ofcourse but she didn't have a clue about trying to get through Peru or anything. Very, very silly and naive. She's learned her lesson and she wont be back in Peru anytime soon. Hopefully she gets on with her life as normal and lives happily and never commits a crime again.

And somewhere in Peru, an inmate has just been given Internet privileges.
