We have stuff in storage in another facility close by and I can certainly understand how this fire took hold. The units are separated by metal partitions that go up to around 9 feet with a metal grille as a ceiling so the fire will easily jump from unit to unit. Given you'll have a mix of home storage and then small businesses stock there will be a lot of flammable material in a fairly compact area.

Aluminium has a relatively low melting point. Don't know what use those partitions would be.

They are used to separate the unit, a lot of these companies buy old buildings and refurbish them so its generally just mezzanine floor with aluminum used to create units.

On their Facebook page she said that the fire started on the opposite side to where her stuff was stored so does not know yet but that there were other businesses who stored stock in the storage facility too so it's an anxious wait.

Yes ,i had the same experience with another facility in Waterford.I had my unit stacked to the ceiling grill with mostly furniture and books ,which would make a great fire .

That sort of layout explains why its proved so difficult to get the fire under control. Unless a fire was caught early in only 1 or 2 units, there would be virtually not chance of putting it out.

Myself and the wife were moving and things got delayed with the purchase so we moved all our things there while we stayed with family for a few weeks. So thats EVERYTHING gone.

Was down there at 7.30 and the owner was there, he knows nothing more than anyone watching the news because he cant get near it. He said he would post update on his site when he can.

from what I recall there is €3000 insurance included when you rent.

That wont replace photos and sentimental items etc. Couldn't care about the tv and washing machine, but the handmade items my grandmother gave us for wedding gif. Irreplaceable.

Tap the sentence that's in spoiler tags. If that doesn't work, touch reply and you should be able to see the contents of the quote in the text box.

Only Dubs are affected so I couldn't give a toss.
1/3 of the population of Dublin come from elsewhere, so there's bound to be boggers , mucksavages, and sheep shaggers affected too

Maximus was right, nothing of any value in those spoilers.

My sympathies to anyone that was affected by the fire.

some of the posters here are numptys.
There is a lot of the stuff in these units from what I've seen in my own place is people moving between houses and are short term storing along with businesses storing stock etc. For example there are bouncy castles (deflated) in the unit beside mine. Flamable as be-jaysus.
While it is only "stuff" it means a lot to the people that have accumulated it.

If this had happened ANYWHERE else in the entire country I would offer my full sympathy.

I just loath Dubs too much to bring myself to even pretend caring.
Surely this only happened to the culchies who live in Dublin, but need a barn to store their stuff?

Its not really, you are renting a space. As its a public(in that members of public can freely enter) building they would have fire safety checks done annually.

If you want space in a 4 hour fire proof vault with gas suppression, you would not fcuking believe the prices charged.
