A serious lack of comedic and acting skills, but that is par for the course in Hollywood-what sets sandler apart in being a real asshole is the involvement as producer in rob fukking Schneiders Movies-that is akin to taking a giant shyt on top of Everything.

Adam Sandler has a market and he does well in playing/marketing to that market. I'm not a fan of his work but it's clear he knows what he's doing as he has been extremely successful in doing it.

I'm sure much of the books/tv shows/films many of you are into are regarded as total trash by others too. Taste differs from person to person, we're thankfully not all into the same things but people who are "dreadful" at what they do don't tend to become multi-multi-millionaires from doing it.

I actually love Adam Sandler movies, Dont mess with the Zohan is my favourite, I could watch that over and over again, and I also really like Jake and Jill, I found that really funny, but I also like the way in a lot of Adam Sandler movies he works with the same actors, like rob shneider who i also find really funny.

oh and I just remembered I now pronounce you Chuck and Larry, there are some great laughs in that film, especially at the wedding when they use a homeless guy as their witness and he does a Russian dance which is brilliant, Ill never forget that scene

He was funny for a while - way, way back in the day. He also turned in a wonderful dramatic performance in 2007's Reign Over Me proving that there's an actor in there somewhere.

I have to say I used to enjoy his movies. Mr Deeds, Big Daddy, Billy Madison etc...

Understated brilliance compared to some of the trash passing as comedy the same era

Older stuff is ok but hasn't aged well.

    Latest stuff is diabolical.

Ben Stiller is the man though, how dare you people.

Happy Gilmore is superb, for that alone I like him.

His films, and other similar ones from the time, seem to match the template for todays trash US 'comedy' films that come out every year - nothing remarkable or all that memorable about them.

Yep that was good! The Longest Yard, The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates.

I think he wrote and directed them all as well. They are definitely funny like

Ben Stiller is easily the most talented of that Brat Pack from the late 90's-00's, turned out to be an excellent director as well.

Zoolander, Dodgeball and Tropic Thunder (a film that wouldn't get made even now, only 6 years later). Secret Life of Walter Mitty was probably my favourite film of 2013.

Stiller was also in meet the parents and something about Mary. He has a pretty good list of very funny movies

As for as I remember his films were a sort of parody of the template

I dunno how this thread became about Ben Stiller but fwiw I really like him as an actor. Zoolander is one of my favourite comedies!

Ben Stiller is okay...but not a patch on his father.

Stiller made Tropic Thunder and Zoolander, plus his performance in Dodgeball was awesome, so Stiller is capable of greatness if he really tries.
The best Sandler did was Wedding Singer, which has not aged well.

Seriously, if people think that Zoolander and Tropic Thunder are at levels of greatness then they really need to see more films.

Tropic Thunder started off with well, especially with Downey's character but then the 2nd half just turned into adventure and rescue. Awful stuff.

For me I would rate Ben Stiller films just ahead of Sandler both are rubbish but Stiller does take himself more seriously. Both laughing all the way to bank so what does my opinion matter.

And don't forget what the great philosopher Harry Callahan said about opinions.;):p

Stiller is a good actor and has a raft of excellent comedies under his belt. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was a great film as well just a year or two ago and even his largely lacklustre recent comedic efforts are far superior to Sandler's.

Sandler is definitely past it by comparison but some of his earlier work is brilliant - Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy spring to mind, and he had a few passable flicks a few years back as well - Click, You Don't Mess with the Zohan are two I thought were decent enough. Last thing I saw him in was 'That's My Boy' with Andy Samberg - not good but admittedly pretty watchable.

THe Big Lebowski, that's more like it.

Go read the reviews of both films. They're not exactly brilliant.

TBH his earlier films are funny. The problem is that he now is a one trick pony. Having the same basic character with the same jokes in film and after film is now tedious and boring. I can only imagine how bad his latest "creation" is going to be!

    Happy Gilmore is a classic.

Everything else he did varies from OK to awful.

Adam Sandler is an actor who can do good. Look at Reign Over Me, Funny People (which was marketed as a laugh out loud comedy over here), and numerous other ones.

Now? In one of his movies, Blended, he came out in an interview and admitted that he made it solely as a way to go to Africa.

    Who's worse? Sandler or Stiller?

Stiller is a ****e actor, he overacts and it never looks natural. He's almost as bad as Nicholas Cage.

    They are both hilarious.
If you don't think that then you are wrong.

The Big Lebowski is one of the most over rated films ever.

Sandler has been great in the handful of 'serious' films he's made. Punch Drunk Love in particular is one of my favourite films ever, and he's excellent in it. He's also great in Reign Over Me and Funny People.

I'm just amazed how studios keep on commisioning his holiday jaunts every two years or so. Shows how creatively bankrupt Hollywood is. And how stupid the people who keep on going to see his films are.

He's harmless, he gets a pass on The Wedding Singer. I just wished he talked in an more adult voice.
