If one of the lads who has served this apprenticeship wouldnt mind saying; did many of ye get kept on after ye finished? Also this might be a bit cheeky but what is a ballpark figure for the wages during training and after qualification? Cheers!

out of 70 apprentices 67 were kept 3 didnt make it for various reasons

Cant comment on wages as the new apprentices may have different terms

Thoughts of a 30 min interview starting make me anxious. Im going to be a bag of nerves at this. Ill try anyway and see what happens. Are the interview questions pretty standard?

Anyone here who did all this in 2011 and still with eircom who would be willing to pm me their number for a chat. Nothing to do with the process. Already have the interview done. Want to chat about where ur based and that sort of thing. Any help would be appreciated

Have my interview/assessment tomorrow and just realised i have neither a copy of my lc results to hand or a passport photo! No chance of me getting the LC results till the weekend as im already up the country for work. Hopefully wont be an issue?

Actually looking forward to tomorrow should be an experience!

Would it be seen as a good question in an interview to ask about pay rates? Its just they havent been stated! Someone told me its 15k-20k a year and not much more when qualified. I'd be surprised if thats true considering the person who told me though!

the network is countrywide, so you'll be put where needed.

2011 intake stated east coast mostly, take Athlone as the middle of the country and to the right of that...

They try accomodate as best they can, but sometimes it wasn't possible. Majority of training took place in Portlaoise, Dundalk and Dublin, Dublin having the majority of the three (various locations around Dublin).

During the two years, majority were close to home work wise, some others weren't so lucky.

When training finished and people got "Field Technician" status, it was winter 2013/2014 (big storms)

Majority of the newly qualified apprentices were sent to the west coast, midlands and south.

This went on until at least April/May.

It also co-incided with a lot of the older technicians leaving on voluntary redundancy...

So it became the situation that they were the replacement technicians, travelling from Dublin, Kildare, Meath, Louth, Cavan, Lietrim, to the likes of Galway, Mayo, Cork, Kerry, Waterford etc... for the week to work then back home the weekend.

This intake, and the following ones, I suspect are the beginning of the back fill of required technicians, in those areas, I'd be very surprised if some of the training didn't take place in Cork or Galway this time round, but there is also the possibility to work with the tried and tested method of what happened before. There is also the possibility of not having the numbers in those parts of the country to make it viable, so it could be dictated by the recruitment process.

This goes for job location too, I would be surprised if there were wasn't more west and southern based roles this time round.
    Again though, just speculating.

just wondering Do we need a copy of L.Cert , Driver licence etc. for them to keep or just to have the originals if possible on the day?

Have Copies if you can. Some didnt have and e cut crowd had to go and get copies but it was the first day. The email you got says you need copies of these so its best order to have them

I didn't choose a date straight away, did not realise they're was such a hurry with them. they contacted me by phone then saying 8th of may was only date available, I said that was grand and I presumed that was that. Probably my own fault but didn't realise the spaces could fill up!

Hey just seen somewhere back on one of the treads that there is 275 for 75 positions, just wondering what attendance is attending each day is there many people not turning up. Also if someone did arrive without have a full driving liecene for there interview are they automatically gone ( I have mine) just tryng to figure how many are left and eligible for next stage. Also what questions where people asked in interview found mine pretty hard

Approx 20 people a day for 3 weeks. Someone early mentioned that they had their booked day on 8th of May and it was brought forward to this thursday, so they are probably filling places that were not filled, with people booked in last so to have a full 20 or so people per day/10 per session.

There was one in my group that had a driving test booked in for next week I think, they allowed him in, as it already was stated in the emails etc that if you hadn't your licence that you had to have proof that you would have it by May.

I won't say what questions were asked as there is still a week to go with the assessments, but anyone used to interviews should be fine.

Had my assessment on Tuesday and the hr lad told us there was about 220 being assessed and he said few people don't turn up so maybe closer to 200 with 75 positions available. We were supposed to be a group of ten and only 7 turned up!

Remember yer drivers licene lc results passport photo and passport! I forgot my lc results have to email them on today, 'twas a bad start to the assessment for me!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,073 ✭✭✭thekopend

There must bee a few not turning up so i was in the first group on the first day and the number called for assesment was 275. 220 is probably taking into account the number not turning up or not eligable etc.
